Knights Ferry News
Knights Ferry

The Community Club meetings are home to one of my favorite small-town customs, potlucks. Everyone brings a dish to share, some bought and some homemade. This monthly meeting is my favorite meeting in town because it includes some of Knights Ferry’s long-established residents who make Jell-O dishes and other homemade dishes. This month’s meeting highlighted various activities over the next few months including possible garage sale, flu shots, Jazz Up the Cemetery day, and Love Knights Ferry day. These things are not all organized by the Community Club but it’s a group effort! Dolly Haskell is exploring the idea of a “town calendar” that each town entity can post their upcoming activities for the public to see both digitally and printed.

Lee and Mary Sue Shearer lost one of their fur buddies Ted due to cancer in the mouth. He and his brother, Jack, kept Mary Sue in good company while she worked on her quilting projects.

Knights Ferry Community Church is pleased to officially introduce Pastor Henry Raven and his wife Jean to the community. I first met Pastor Henry and his wife Jean with two of their grandchildren at Vacation Bible School in July. Welcome to Knights Ferry!

The Shearers also have some exciting news to share! Their grandson, Alex Kipper, had his first day certified to work in Mission Control while the Soyuz MS-05 traveled to the International Space Station.

Knights Ferry School is full of love! I am truly impressed by our parents and community members who have volunteered to ready the school for the new school year! Volunteers spent their Saturday giving the school’s multipurpose/cafeteria room a new coat of paint and installed a trophy case donated to the school.

Lisa Dolling celebrated her 30th work-anniversary with the Army Corps of Engineers. Both the Army Corp and her mom, Carmen Frymire, held a party in Lisa’s name. Congratulations Lisa; that is quite the accomplishment!

Shasta Duckworth was the passenger in a single vehicle accident and sustained major injuries. Unfortunately, the driver did not make it. Please keep Shasta and his loved ones in your prayers through the recovery process.

Summer is coming to end, exactly one more week until Knights Ferry school opens their doors to all students for another 180 school days! Be sure to get your paperwork filled out both online and printed before school starts. Students at Knights Ferry school will have a lot of excitement on campus with the newly painted doors and cafeteria and a few new teachers! I love this time of year because the stores are packed with aisles of fresh school supplies like stacks of composite notebooks, full boxes of crayons, and clean erasers. Who doesn’t love to color with a fresh crayon or coloring pencil?

Knights Ferry is such a beautiful community. One way to keep our town looking its best is to pick up garbage. Take a short walk with a garbage bag for optimal efficiency to combine exercise, cleaning our town, and breathtaking scenery all around.
