Saturday evening a fire started by the river on Frymire Hill and burned up to the cross and Carmen’s back porch. It burned in the river canyon towards the town and westwards. It jumped the river and Buena Vista families moved Gordon and Michel’s vehicles (they were not home) and it burned some of Griesner’s land. An engine protected Carol Davis’s home. A spot fire burned an area off Kennedy Road. Firefighters were stationed at all the homes in the area. A borate bomber was diverted to the fire from the Big Sur fire and turned the hillsides (and Lynn D.) pink. Thanks go out to Stanislaus Consolidated Fire, Tuolumne and Cal Fire for the engines, tankers, planes and helicopter. A hand crew from the prison worked through the night in the difficult terrain. Thanks to Will, Ericka, Lynn, Jewels and Rossi for the quick response to Carmen’s house. The river bottom was still smoldering Sunday morning with firefighters still in the area.

Your reporter’s granddaughter Claire Krippner got one of Kay Martinelli’s puppies from Kay’s rescue dog that delivered five puppies. Her name is Tanner and she is the first puppy that Claire has owned. Needless to say, Claire has been learning the whole puppy business!

At the MAC meeting last Thursday there were more in attendance than usual. The California Highway patrolman Eric said our area was quiet but there had been 10 fatalities in the county. There also has been more road racing and they are watching that trend. County Supervisor Bill O’Brien told of the speed humps that have been delayed but they are ordered. Ruben Imperial, county liaison to the MACs, spoke on training sessions for MAC members on the Brown Act and ethics. Heather Wright, Army Corp Park Manager, introduced Brady Went, new Senior Ranger. She said the sheriff would patrol the park on the weekends. Also there is danger from fallen trees and limbs on the riverbank. Under new business the fire hazards in town were discussed (after Saturday’s fire the town should be very aware).
