Knights Ferry News 11-16-22

During this time of the year, it is normal to see people standing on the bridge sidewalk and peering down at the river to watch for salmon swimming upstream to lay eggs but it sure was busy this weekend! The Salmon Festival was a great way to enjoy the day on Saturday in Knights Ferry. Families came from all over the area and enjoyed the activities planned by the conservation groups attending the Salmon Festival. The conservation groups planned activities for children of all ages, some had coloring pages, bracelet making, water coloring, painting wood butterflies, a small fishing game, and the Cal Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras unit brought a fire truck where the children could try on a real fireman outfit. One of the more notable activities was the T-shirt painting booth. I personally remember my children making these same shirts many years ago! The booths had a lot of information regarding water safety and nature preservation including water and animal preservation. One booth had information about plants that don’t require a lot of water with photos and care instructions and they even had a nice selection of succulent plants for the attendees.

The Miller’s Hall hosted an open house at the Knights Ferry Museum last Saturday night. The “Knight at the Museum” was a very well attended event with around 50 people in attendance. Locals and visitors came to tour the museum. Those in attendance enjoyed wine and appetizers planned and presented by Dorothy McKinsey. She has a special gift for entertaining! Bethany Basmajian made beautiful fall floral arrangements to decorate the museum to add to the fall themed event. She even embellished the frame hung for people to take photos with to create memories of the special evening. The museum is lucky to have some amazing people who put in hard work to celebrate and preserve the history of our special town. Please make time to get involved in the Miller’s Hall! Their meetings are the second Tuesday of each month at 9am.

Don’t forget to attend the Knights Ferry Fuel Reduction Project presentation this Thursday, November 17 at 6pm given by the East Stanislaus Fire Safety Council. Some goals of the presentation are to share information about the project including the areas of impact, the process to remove brush and overgrown areas, and to answer questions. The presentation could apply to all residents in the area because the council could get more grants for other locations in the future.
