River McCarthy travelled with her mom, Kim McCarthy, grandma, Darlene Pizzella, and great-aunts, Arlene Gillespie and Betty Mattson-Smith to China last month. A highlight of River’s trip was the climbing to the highest point on the Great Wall where she was certain she saw Russia! The group visited remarkable cities including Xian, home to the Terracotta warrior sculptures, Beijing and Shanghai. The ladies enjoyed dozens of dumplings in every flavor and the memorable experience of travelling a foreign country together. Welcome back to Knights Ferry, Ladies!

For Halloween at school, the classes held class parties with games, activities, and food before they broke into groups for the pumpkin decorating contest. Congratulations to the pumpkin decorating contest winners; Jessica Martinez, Allison Blanc, Addie Gordo, Caitlyn Canterbury, and Naya Moura! The winners created a goose pumpkin using toilet paper and a bit of cardboard. The groups were very creative this year. The community members and school parents lined the streets with buckets of candy waiting for the students to parade down the street to trick-or-treat through town.

Over 400 participants signed up to roll a pumpkin in hopes of winning their age division title of “Pumpkin Roll Champion of the World” at the 55th Pumpkin Roll in Knights Ferry but it was just a small fraction of the crowd of people who came to town for the day. The pancake breakfast line was out the door most of the morning and many of the food booths sold out of food and drinks before the day’s end. The T-shirt booth sold out of their 2018 Pumpkin Roll shirts within hours of opening and they even sold most of their former Pumpkin Roll shirts for a reduced price. The streets were crowded and filled with laughter as the attendees enjoyed the warm weather and good company. Thank you to all the community members who band together to plan such a wonderful event! Winners for each division will be announced next week.
