July Programs Offered At The Oakdale Library

The Summer Reading Challenge for all ages is in full swing at the Oakdale Library. Read books you love, join in for fun activities and programs, and enter to win great prizes throughout the summer.

There will be two Lego Days at the library this month. Kids can create their own masterpieces using the library’s Lego collection and they will display the works in the Library. The building fun begins at 3 p.m. on Thursdays, July 11 and July 25.

A special Summer Reading Program performance by “Didgeridoo Down Under!” is scheduled for Monday, July 15 at 3 p.m. This is a high energy, Australia-themed show that combines music, art, puppetry, comedy, and science. There is something for everyone in this fast paced, fascinating, and entertaining show.

“Stranger Things” will be happening at the Library on Tuesday, July 16 at 3 p.m. Tweens and Teens will be transported back to the “80’s” in this fun craft and activity that will include “Friendship Bracelets,” hot plastic bead art, and a “Photo Booth.”

The Friends of the Oakdale Library are the main sponsors of many of the great programs and prizes offered at the library, including gift baskets given to Adult Summer Reading drawing winners. The Friends constantly promote and encourage the gift of literacy at all levels for everyone. The Friends will hold their monthly meeting on Monday, July 22 at 1:30 p.m. Forms to join and info are available at the library, or call 209-847-4204.

On Tuesday, July 23 at 11:30 a.m., make time to attend the regular Oakdale Library Book Club for Adults. Join in to meet, mingle, and chat with other literature lovers. Read and discover new books, genres, and authors. Stop by the Library to sign out your copy of “Wisdom of the Last Farmer,” which is the book selection for July. Then join others for a great discussion.

The Wee Move And Play program, featuring unstructured imaginative play for little ones, 5 and under, will be Monday, July 29 at 11 a.m. Parents can help their children learn social skills and have fun at the same time.

And on Tuesday, July 30, at 3 p.m. “Classes at Hogwarts!” will be in summer session. Create a “wizarding” wand, mix a potion, and learn a bit about the world of Harry Potter in this event geared for tweens and teens.

Continuing throughout the summer, Wiggle Worms and Preschool Story Time are both offered.

Wiggle Worms Story Time is perfect for ages birth to 3 and their caregivers. Join in every Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. Enjoy stories, music, dancing, rhythm activities, and fingerplay, as little ones learn to love reading with people they love.

Preschool Story Time sets the stage for Kindergarten with books, flannelboard stories, fingerplay, and music geared to children ages 3-6, and caregivers. They meet every Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. for fun and learning.
