Jadyn Rau Captures 2021 Distinguished Young Woman Title

The Distinguished Young Women of Oakdale Class of 2021 program, sponsored by Soroptimist International of Oakdale, was held Saturday, Feb. 22 at Magnolia School Auditorium. Over 300 family, friends, and community members attended the event that featured 17 junior class participants from Oakdale High School. Oakdale High senior and reigning Distinguished Young Woman Jaden Chau passed her title to Jadyn Rau. In addition to the $2,500 scholarship for the title award, Rau received the $200 Fitness category award scholarship.

Scholarship awards were also presented to Stephanie Hauser, Second Place ($1,500) and Interview ($200); Caroline Krum, Third Place ($1,000) and Self Expression ($200); Madison Hoffman, Fourth Place ($800) and Scholastics ($200); and Olivia Mondragon, Fifth Place ($600) and Spirit Award ($200). Ava Merchant received the $200 Talent category award scholarship and Hannah Lee received the $250 Community Service award scholarship. Also participating in the program were Nicole Brunker, Mackenzie Carreira, Kylie Davis, Carley Denys, Harmony Edwards, Alexis Hamby, Lauren Kiely, Charlotte Liekhus, Leilani Roper, and Hannah Sundberg.

A total of $7,850 in scholarships were awarded from donations received from the Oakdale Lions Club, Oakdale Rotary Club, Oak Valley Community Bank, Dr. Chet and Mrs. Parnima Mahida, Dr. A. Lee Scaief/Oak Valley Optometric, Drs. Jeff and Jodi Sceville, Bordona’s Furniture and Appliance, Haidlen Ford/Steves Chevrolet-Buick Oakdale New Car Dealers, Valley First Credit Union, Scenic Oaks Funding – Orval Neal, and Lenore Hawks. Soroptimist International of Oakdale provided the title award.

Jadyn Rau will move on to represent Oakdale at California’s Distinguished Young Women program in July in Bakersfield for an opportunity to earn additional scholarship awards.
