Stanislaus State has welcomed Dr. Sue Borrego as the University’s interim president, whose appointment was effective on Aug. 2.
A skilled educator, administrator and advocate, Borrego brings more than 30 years of experience as a leader in higher education to her role as interim president. Like many of Stanislaus State’s first-generation students, Borrego was the first in her family to attend college. Her commitment to student success, inclusive excellence and community engagement uniquely qualifies her for the opportunities and challenges of leading Stan State during a time of transition as the California State University Office of the Chancellor searches for Stan State’s next president.
Borrego and the University’s senior leadership team will kick off the semester and 2023-2024 academic year with the annual Fall Welcome Address at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 17 in Snider Recital Hall.
Prior to joining Stan State, Borrego served as the chancellor and a professor at the University of Michigan-Flint, where she provided leadership during the Flint water crisis. During her time at UM-Flint, she created 12 new academic programs, increased retention and enhanced the student experience. She also led successful philanthropic efforts, which included the largest capital campaign in the university’s history, which raised $53 million over three years.
Borrego’s appointment at Stan State marks her return to the California State University system as she previously held senior administrative roles at CSU Dominguez Hills and CSU Monterey Bay.
