An Escalon woman died of injuries sustained in a crash on Highway 120 just before the Fourth of July holiday.

Wanda Hendrickson, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Highway 120 at Cleveland Avenue, which occurred just before 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3. She was driving a 2013 Scion eastbound and had slowed to make a left turn onto North Cleveland when her vehicle was struck from behind by a 2013 Ford F-150 pick-up driven by a Modesto man. That pushed her into the westbound lane and an oncoming driver, from Oakdale, was unable to avoid striking her vehicle even though he applied the brakes and tried to steer his 2009 Chevrolet pick-up off the roadway.

Hendrickson was pinned in the vehicle and passers-by attempted to help her until emergency crews arrived. She died at the scene, said the CHP, which handled the investigation. All involved were wearing their seatbelts and the initial investigation indicated drugs and/or alcohol were not a factor.
