Going Green, Promise Scholars Programs At Stanislaus State

Stanislaus State in Turlock has released its latest list of ‘daybook’ items, keeping the public informed of programs, services and accomplishments at the state university in Turlock. A complete schedule of Stan State events can be found on the University website. 

 

Going Green

Stanislaus State continues to be recognized nationally for its commitment to sustainability and green practices. The University is featured in The Princeton Review’s 2021 “Guide to Green Colleges,” released Oct. 20, as one of the most environmentally-responsible colleges in the United States and Canada. The Princeton Review released its annual green guide the same week Stan State served as a host institution for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education’s (AASHE’s) virtual sustainability conference.

Tavernier Leaves School Of Nursing

As Debra Tavernier leaves her post as director, she’s content with easing into early retirement. She continues to write grant proposals, become certified for online teaching and train others to work with simulators this fall, and in the spring will teach health sciences leadership and management classes.

Promise Scholars Program Receives Grant

A program at Stanislaus State that supports former foster youth in their quest for academic success has received a $50,000 grant from the California College Pathways Fund to expand programming and services to meet students’ increasing needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘Black Musicians Matter’ Series

Musical performances and a discussion by African American Lutenist Andrew Maginley launched the Department of Music’s new Black Musicians Matter series. Maginley wraps up his virtual appearances with a motivational talk from 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5.

Intersectionality Program

Stan State Assistant Professor Mary Roaf in Ethnic Studies will share her personal journey and the broader story of the connection between Black and Indigenous Americans during a Zoom program entitled “Black Lives, Indigenous Lives and the Matter of Justice on Turtle Island” on Thursday, Nov. 5.

Webinar Discusses Poetry Of Black Panther Party

Stan State lecturer Regina Jennings was 17 years old when she flew across the country to join a movement. On Thursday, Nov. 5, she will talk about the experiences that inspired in a webinar “Poetry and the Black Panther Party.” Registration for the event is free.
