An 18-year-old driver died in a Friday, May 13 crash along Orange Blossom Road, just east of Bonson Court east of Oakdale.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the 18-year-old woman from Stockton was driving a 2015 Nissan SUV eastbound on Orange Blossom about 3:15 p.m., when the incident occurred. Authorities received a call of a traffic collision and emergency personnel arriving on the scene located the SUV, south of the road, partially submerged in a pond. The right front passenger, a 20-year-old woman from Oakdale, was transported to Memorial Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver was transported by air ambulance to Doctor’s Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The victim's name was not immediately available from authorities.

The preliminary CHP investigation shows the driver was approaching a left bend in the roadway just east of Bonson Court, when the right side tires of the Nissan left the south road edge and entered the dirt shoulder. The driver turned the Nissan to the left to re-enter the roadway but lost control of the vehicle as it went back off the south shoulder. The SUV then collided with a wood fence and a series of trees before going in to the pond. The Nissan came to rest on its left side, partially submerged in the pond.

It is unknown at this time if the driver died as a result of drowning, said authorities.

Both the driver and passenger were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.
