Fire Calls 6-10-20

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27 and 28 in Oakdale; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area. Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, June 2 through Monday, June 8.

 

SUNDAY JUNE 7

9:02 a.m. – Engine 30, Engine/Water Tender 27, Stanislaus Engine 26, BC 5 and BC 2 assisted the Escalon Fire District with a working residential structure fire on Escalon Bellota Road.

10:28 a.m. – Brush 28, Engine 7 and BC 2 responded to a vegetation fire on Warnerville Road. The fire was quickly contained by Brush 28.

11:48 a.m. – Engine 27, Engine 7, Cal Fire Engine 4486 and BC 5 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 108 west of Knights Ferry. Crews found one patient with minor injuries and assisted with patient care.

3:05 p.m. – Engine 27, Water Rescue 28, Stanislaus Water Rescue 26 and BC 5 responded to a reported water rescue on the Stanislaus River near the Highway 120 Bridge. Crews located a subject deceased in the water and assisted in the body recovery.

 

FRIDAY, JUNE 5

Battalion 5 assisted the Army Corps of engineer Rangers with providing UAV photos of the fire in Knights Ferry that burned 45 acres Thursday near the covered bridge.

 

THURSDAY, JUNE 4

3:28 p.m. – Modesto and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire crews assisted Cal Fire on a 45 acre vegetation fire at Knights Ferry near the covered bridge. No structures damaged and no injuries reported.

11:09 p.m. – Modesto, Ceres, and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire crews responded to a residential structure fire on Cloverdale Avenue. Crews arrived to find a single-story house with a well involved detached garage fire that extended into the attic over the living space. No injuries reported.

 

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3

9:30 a.m. – Station 27, 28, 29, and Battalion 5 met for a briefing on the Oakdale Demonstration Response Plan. There was a protest planned for 10 a.m. at the Gene Bianchi Community Center in the City of Oakdale. Oakdale PD, Modesto PD, Stanislaus County SO, and the Modesto Fire Dept. set up a Unified Command to ensure the safety of all participants in the protest, as well as the citizens and property in the downtown Oakdale area. The protest included a march to Wood Park and back to the community center. Battalion 5 was assigned to assist the SO UAV team at Station 28 providing aerial views of the demonstration to the Incident Commander.

12:47 p.m. – Modesto Fire Department and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District responded to the report of a vegetation fire in Tuolumne River Regional Park. The first unit arrived on scene to find less than a quarter-acre of grass on fire. The fire was contained by dirt roads. Crews were on scene for about 60 minutes mopping up the fire to ensure it was out.

7:10 p.m. – Modesto Fire Department and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District responded with Salida Fire Department to the report of three people on the river requesting help. Crews responded to the intersection of Ladd and Stoddard and accessed the river with boats. Stanislaus County Sheriff AIR 102 was able to locate the victims and guide the boats in. Three rafters were located on the bank of the river. They were transported to the ambulance crew on scene and evaluated. One rafter was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The other two rafters were transported back to their vehicle.

9:36 p.m. – Engine-27, E-28, Q-22, and BC-5 were dispatched to a potential structure fire in the 200 block of Pinkston Avenue in Oakdale for a strong smell of smoke in the structure. On scene E-28 spoke with the occupant who stated they had turned on the dryer and the lights went out in the house. When they went to check the breakers outside on the panel they received an electrical shock when touching the handle. The power was secured to the building by our crews and PG&E was requested. PG&E was able to locate and repair a broken ground wire on the feed to the house. An ambulance was called to evaluate the occupant for any injuries but they declined transport. All fire units cleared.
