Oakdale High School senior Rachelle Pabalan has kicked off the ‘scholarship season’ of the 2014-15 school year with her recent earning of a $10,000 Scholarship from Nordstrom. The high school senior was surprised by a check presentation, as well as a new Mac Book Air during her 6th period class on Monday.

Pabalan, the current 2015 Distinguished Young Woman and Student Representative on the Oakdale Joint Unified School District Board, was addressed and acknowledged by Superintendent Marc Malone during Monday night’s board meeting.

“I encourage all students to look into and apply for this scholarship,” Pabalan stated. “It is a high honor. I believe only 80 students of 11,000 applicants were selected, but I’m proof it can be done.”

The humble senior additionally mentioned her pride to be able to represent both her town and school in such a positive way.

The Nordstrom Scholarship is open to high school juniors residing in a state with a Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack store. Candidates must maintain a 2.7 GPA and participate in volunteer, community or extracurricular activities. The $10,000 award is paid out in four $2,500 equal installments to their chosen accredited college or university.
