Drama Club Preparing For Performances Of Shrek
Shrek

OHS Drama Club, under the direction of Bryan Mills and Emily Hudson, will present the musical Shrek on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. at the OHS Theater. Tickets are on sale at the School Business Office for $10 per seat.

The musical Shrek takes place in a faraway swamp, where an ogre named Shrek (Caleb Fife) has his precious solitude suddenly shattered by an invasion of annoying fairy tale characters. They were all banished from their kingdom by the evil Lord Farquaad (Michael Medlin). Determined to save their home – not to mention his – Shrek cuts a deal with Farquaad and sets out to rescue Princess Fiona (Taylor Blakemore) to be Farquaad’s bride. Rescuing the Princess may be small compared to her deep, dark secret.

The OHS Drama Club with a cast of 54 students and 20 techies are finalizing their public performances. They will present the show four times for elementary students also.

The cast and crew were delighted to have Broadway star of the musical Shrek, Colleen Hawks, attend one of their recent rehearsals. She encouraged them how to make the most of their show and explained the ins and outs of performing on Broadway.

Hawks lives in New York City but is originally from Oakdale. She sang the part of the Fairy Godmother and the Voice in the Bluebird in the Broadway production of Shrek. She starred with Hugh Jackman in the Musical The Boy from Oz and was in the smash hit of Smokey Joe’s Cafe on Broadway also. After leaving Oakdale High School she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree then moved to L.A. where she performed for Disney playing such singing roles as Snow White, Cinderella and Ariel both on TV and stage including tours to London, Paris, Munich, and Holland. She has worked with many opera companies in NYC also.
