Top spellers from area schools will compete in the Stanislaus County Elementary Spelling Championship in November.

The Elementary Spelling Championship, for children in grades 4-6, is slated for Wednesday, Nov. 7 at Enochs High School, 3201 Sylvan Ave., Modesto. Sponsored by the Stanislaus County Office of Education, the event is open to the public and begins promptly at 5:30 p.m.

Schools participating in this year’s Elementary Spelling Championship include: Agnes Baptist, Apricot Valley, Beard, Bonita, California Avenue, Capistrano, Cardozo, Central Valley Charter, Chatom, Chrysler, Cloverland, Connecting Waters Charter, Creekside, Cunningham, Denair Elementary Charter Academy, Dieterich, Dutcher, Eisenhut, El Vista, Empire, Enslen, Fair Oaks, Fox Road, Fremont, Great Valley Academy, Hart-Ransom, Hart-Ransom Charter, Hickman, Hughes, Hunt, Julien, Keyes, Keyes Charter, Lakewood, Las Palmas, Magnolia, Mesa Verde, Our Lady of Fatima. Paradise Charter, Riverbank Language Academy, Rose Avenue, Ross, Sacred Heart, St. Stanislaus, Sierra View, Sipherd, Sonoma, Spratling, Stanislaus, Stroud, University Charter, Von Renner, Walnut, Walnut Grove, Whitehead and Wilson.

The top two spellers in the Elementary Spelling Championship will represent Stanislaus County at the state competition in Stockton on May 11, 2019. The third place speller will serve as an alternate.

The spelling championship is sponsored by the Stanislaus County Office of Education.
