U.S. Representative Jeff Denham (R-Turlock) recently published the first in a series of short video clips from interviews he conducted for the Library of Congress’ Veterans History Project. The video, shared on Rep. Denham’s Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages, is also the inaugural post in his Thank-A-Vet Thursday social media initiative.

“It’s an honor to represent so many who wore the cloth of this nation and bravely went to war to serve their country and defend our freedoms right here in the Central Valley,” said Rep. Denham. “The Veterans History Project is a great opportunity for these men and women to archive and share their memories, and I’m privileged to have conducted several interviews for this initiative.”

The Veterans History Project was created through an act of Congress in 2000 and invites veterans from conflicts ranging from World War I to the Iraq War to share their story through audio or visual interviews, memoirs or photographic documentation for archival with the Library of Congress. The featured video posted on Aug. 17 highlights Roy Haury, a Korean War veteran from Patterson, who sat down with Rep. Denham earlier this month to share his memories from the war and how his service has impacted his life.

The video was posted using the hashtag #TVT, the hashtag associated with “Thank-A-Vet Thursday.” #TVT is a social media initiative Rep. Denham is undertaking to utilize social media to spotlight and thank veterans for their service. Similar to #TBT, which is commonly associated with the “Throwback Thursday” trend, Denham invites and encourages social media users to post photos and videos of veterans in their community using #TVT to recognize and raise awareness of the great history of the nation’s armed services and service members.

More clips of interviews with veterans from California’s 10th congressional district will be posted on Denham’s social media channels as well as his website on Thursdays as part of #TVT in the coming weeks. Denham plans to submit the full interviews to the Library of Congress for processing and inclusion in the Veterans History Project later this fall. The full interviews will also be posted to Denham’s YouTube page once they have been officially submitted.
