After a month long investigation, a former Boy Scout troop leader and Oakdale business owner was arrested by Stanislaus County Sheriff’s detectives on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 5 for engaging in sexual acts with a minor and showing the minor pornography.

Paul Birmingham, 55, of Oakdale, and owner of Print-Rite Printing on Hi Tech Parkway, was suspected of having inappropriate relationships with minors.

Birmingham is a past Boy Scout troop leader and is believed to have utilized his position to possibly establish relationships with young boys.

Earlier this year, on July 28, a 15-year-old boy provided information to law enforcement claiming he had been molested by Birmingham. Officials said the acts had been occurring since the boy was 13 years old.

The sheriff’s department said Birmingham was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for child molestation, sodomy, oral copulation, and distribution of pornography to a minor. Sheriff’s department records show that Birmingham is no longer being held.

Richard McCartney, spokesman for the Greater Yosemite Council of Boy Scouts of America said Birmingham is no longer associated with the Boy Scouts.

“His membership was revoked back in 2004 because of allegations of abuse,” said McCartney. “He was reported to authorities at that time. Since then, we have had no contact.”

McCartney would not elaborate on what the allegations were at that time and said they have been, and would continue to cooperate with authorities.

Birmingham lives outside the city in the unincorporated area of Oakdale.

On Monday, Sept. 9, a person at the residence identifying himself as Birmingham’s son said that Birmingham and the family did not want to make a statement and asked that their privacy be respected.
