What better way to spend the Sunday after Halloween than flinging pumpkins down the main street of town?

For many, that’s exactly what they did in Knights Ferry on Nov. 3, as the small hamlet hosted the 56th Annual Pumpkin Roll.

Competition was hosted in a number of divisions, the winner was the one that got it closest to the finish line without going over and without going out of bounds.

The popular pumpkin roll desserts offered up by the Garden Club sold out, there were special activities during the day and plenty of fun for those taking part in the rolling events.

Champions this year in the girls categories were, from youngest to oldest: Rylee Reichmuth, Kiah Cox, Kaeli Sweet, Hilary Coleman and Sharon Null, senior ladies. In the categories for boys, youngest to oldest, winners were Ryder Earhart, Zane Moltman, Deagan Sweet, Will Haskell and, for senior men, Louis Niles.

Special appearances were featured by cosplay actors Deadpool and Lady Deadpool and the Odd Fellows also hosted their first Sunday of the month pancake breakfast.

Fresh off the success of the Pumpkin Roll, Knights Ferry will be the scene this Saturday, Nov. 9 for the annual Stanislaus River Salmon Festival, set from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Knights Ferry Recreation Area, 17968 Covered Bridge Road. This is a free, family-friendly festival with hands on activities for kids and kids at heart. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/srsfest or call (209) 403-1046.
