Friday night, Aug. 21 was supposed to be the kickoff to the 2020 Oakdale High School football season. The stands were supposed to be packed, Pete Simoncini was supposed to be on the microphone, the band should have been playing and the Sonora Wildcats were supposed to be on the field against the host Mustangs.

However, as we all know none of that happened. The only thing that seemed normal about it was the famous tri-tip sandwich.

On Friday night, the Oakdale High School Sports Boosters Club hosted a drive-thru tri-tip sandwich dinner fundraiser. With over 700 meals handed out, the fundraiser was considered to be a huge success. It was the first fundraiser of the season, after the cancelation of the annual dinner and auction that was originally scheduled for earlier this spring.

Cars lined up and entered through the visitor side gate at Oakdale High School for their dinner to go. The dinner included a tri-tip sandwich, a large fruit cup, chips and a cookie. Each meal was bagged up and handed out in a non-contact fashion. Many Boosters Club officials and volunteers helped out with the event that ran from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Boosters Club President Antoinette Rodin said that the event was a success and overall, it was a smooth operation and a great night. She hopes that the club can host other fundraisers soon. For more information on the club, follow them on Facebook at Oakdale High School Sports Boosters Club. The club is a nonprofit organization that helps raise funds for the Mustangs athletics department that distributes funds to all Mustang sports that are in need of new equipment, jerseys and more.
