SPOOKYTON Its the Halloween season, which means its time to watch scary movies with the family. Or scary movies on your own that will keep you up at night and make you change the locks on your doors, but today were talking about the ones you watch with your family.

This weekend welcomes the release of the family fright film Goosebumps, and believe it or not the movie is a lot of fun. The trailers may have made it seem like the film was just for kids, but parents will have fun with it as well.

Since youre thinking about taking your family to see R.L. Stines stories come to life, here are some things you should know about the movie before heading to the theater:

Language

Bad language is pretty much nonexistent in this PG-rated film. There are moments where a character may call another character weird or dumb, but thats pretty much where it ends. There arent really even innuendos to speak of or adult humor that flies over kids heads.

When it comes to language, its more like a G-rated film and less than what you would find in a Shrek movie.

How scary is it?

The movie has moments that may make little ones jump, but the actual scares are surrounded by jokes or ridiculous situations. All that equals up to a movie thats funny, not scary.

Kids that are under 5 may think its a little intense considering its not an animated film, even though all the monsters are computer generated; but depending on what your young kids can handle, they may be OK.

I left my 5-year-old daughter at home for this one, but after seeing it she would have closed her eyes at a few parts, but for the most part she would have been OK.

Am I going to like it as the adult?

I cant speak for everyone, but I can speak for myself, and I had fun.

Jack Black will make you laugh, and youll find yourself smiling at the silly scenarios and over-the-top monsters. Its not going to be the best thing youve seen in the theater all year, but it should be an entertaining 90 minutes.

I wasnt with my kids, but it would have been even more enjoyable with them by my side to watch the insanity ensue.

If you dont want to take my word for it, then I can tell you some of the other people in the audience were commenting on how much fun they had and how theyre hoping for a sequel.

Goosebumps is rated PG for scary and intense creature action and images, and for some rude humor.
