A horse-drawn carriage at any event is almost like magically being transported back in time.

It can also turn any occasion into an enchanting one.

So says the Peppermint Creek Carriage Company. This family owned and operated business with ancestors tracing back to the days of the miners, farmers, freighters and lumberman is based in Calaveras County but also services Stockton and the Central Valley.

Those early roots allow for the Peppermint Creek to offer Gold Rush tours with some inside knowledge.

“We have researched the very secrets of this outwardly charming town (Sonora) and know about the hidden mining shafts, the gambling halls, and the fires that concealed the crimes of the prominent,” said the official website (www.peppermintcreekcarriage.com).

Others tales include a stage-coach robber turned poet and miners who made and lost their fortune right here in Sonora.

The horse-drawn carriage 2849 Gold Rush tours – authentic carriage pulled by Belgian Draft horses – are a few of the services offered by the Peppermint Creek Carriage Company.

Included are the following:

·         Weddings – Nothing says romance than a horse-drawn carriage. Peppermint Creek can make this special day even more memorable with the White Cinderella Carriage.

·         Parades & Special Events – Carriages are offered up in lavish decorations while hauled by beautiful horses.

·         Educational field trips – Peppermint Creek in conjunction with the Knights Ferry Army Corp of Engineers provide a glimpse of simple times in this region for students of all ages, using the banks of the Stanislaus River.

Earlene Smith is the owner of Peppermint Creek Carriage Company. She’s also an experienced educator who will tailor her presentation appropriately to the age of the class.

Her Belgian Draft horses are named Jesse and Kyle. Both are “kid safe” and willing partners of a life-long team.

“Children will learn how these horses helped settle the West,” said Smith. “We will demonstrate that working horses are handled with care and consideration for their well-being and comfort.”

Peppermint Creek is located at 19925 Peppermint Falls Dr, Jamestown.
