It’s hard to believe that summer is already coming to end and that soon students will be returning to school.

There are only a few more days before students start to stock their backpacks with notebooks, binders, rulers, highlighters, pens, pencils and papers. While a backpack filled with school supplies is pretty darn exciting for many students, kids of all ages still have a bit of their summer vacation left and are looking to enjoy one last hoorah-fun-time for the summer.

Due to triple digit temperatures all week, many kids along with their parents are seeking their last summer activities in cooler places such as the public swimming pool at the Ripon Aquatics Center at Ripon High, 301 M. Acacia Ave., Ripon (599-3859 or 221-5209).  Whether one is a well-established swimmer or simply a shy water wader, families can come to the public pool, relax under the covered awning before enjoying a refreshing end of summer dip together.

The center’s public pool opened shortly after the school year ended and will continue to remain open a few more days until Aug. 5 — which means there is still time for cool water-fun.

A certified life guard is on duty during public swimming hours (Monday through Friday from 1to 4 p.m.) and for a small fee of only $3.50 per day, kids of all ages can swim, splash, tread, kick their fit and stay cool before needing to refocus their attention and energy on other import things like learning history, reading, math and other subjects taught by their fine school teachers.

Although the public pool will be closing soon, there are still a number of programs and activities Ripon Aquatics Center offers throughout the year.

 Some of the activities include:

*USA Swimming:  Year-round training and practice groups to develop the skills for swimmers of all ages and ability levels.

*US Masters /Lap Swimming: Workouts and designated lap swimming for adults at any skill and commitment level.

*Water Polo:  A year-round team sport program for all ages and skill level.  As well as scheduled tournaments and scrimmages for swimmers with a USA Water Polo Memberships.

*Scuba Lessons:  Once the dates and times are set, you just need to bring a towel, swim suit, and sun screen to the center then have fun learning the art of scuba diving.

Winter conditioning and extended swim programs are also available to improve swimming skills throughout the year.

Water lovers young and old are able to stay active at the Ripon Aquatics Center throughout their many programs and then before you know it, it will be summer again, the public pool will re-open and as always offer swimming lessons for ages 3 and up which cover basic introduction, learning how to float and proper stroke techniques all taught by the center’s certified coaches.

There is always plenty to look forward to at the Ripon Aquatics Center but for right now if you are looking for one last summer hoorah-fun-time be sure to stay cool and come swim at the pool.
