The Modesto Junior College Nursing Alumni Association invites the community to the 12th annual nursing scholarships fundraising dinner on Thursday, May 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Mary Stuart Rogers Student Center West Campus, located at 2201 Blue Gum Ave., in Modesto.

The theme is “Celebrating Nurses in our Community” and a highlight of the event is recognizing and honoring outstanding nurses who serve in the local area.

“This fun-filled, inspirational event is open to everyone,” said Bonnie Costello, MJC professor emeritus of nursing. “The registered nurses being honored are regarded as role models in the nursing profession.”

Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to current nursing students during the evening. The scholarships are given in honor of Lupe Perez, who was a graduate of MJC’s first nursing class in 1965. He worked locally as a nurse for many years and was a charter member and president of the Nursing Alumni Association.

The dinner cost is $30 for adults and $10 for children under 12 years of age. All funds raised for the evening are used to support scholarships and resources for nursing students.

To purchase tickets, donate money or a basket for the drawing, or become an event sponsor, contact Bonnie Costello at 575-6548 or costellob@mjc.edu. The following levels of event sponsorship are still available: gold - $2,000 (16 tickets), silver - $1,000 (8 tickets) and bronze - $500 (4 tickets).
