Modesto Junior College Dance Department presents “Through Line,” an evening of modern and contemporary dance on Feb. 17, 18, 19 and 20 at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Performing and Media Arts Center on East Campus, 435 College Ave, Modesto.

The evening will feature the MJC Off-Balance Dance Company, an eclectic ensemble of young and mature artists that perform with physicality, integrity and grace, and a belief that through movement, the spoken word may be revealed.

“Through Line incorporates a cast of 25 dancers who have not only invested hours of hard work into each dance, but have pushed themselves to new heights,” said Kim T. Davis, MJC professor of dance. “The commitment and dedication is inspiring to witness and we invite you to get a glimpse of these wonderful dancers and creative works of art.”

Joining the production is guest choreographer Holly Johnston from Long Beach, California, who prepared a special piece inspired by the writings of U.S. Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera. During the rehearsal process the dancers studied Herrera’s poetry and selected several poems to create a movement vocabulary.

In addition to Johnston’s work, the concert will be choreographed by MJC instructors Kim T. Davis and Lori Bryhni, Off-Balance choreographer Rebbecca Meyers, and MJC student choreographer Andrew Merrill.

Guest performers include Gregori, Beyer and Davis High School dancers, as well as Strut Performing Arts students. Each guest performer worked intimately with MJC instructors to become an integral part of the “Through Line” production.

Ticket prices are $10 for general admission and $8 for students and seniors. Student preview night is Wednesday, Feb. 17 with all tickets $5. Tickets are available in advance at the MJC Auditorium Box Office on East Campus, open Tuesdays through Fridays from noon to 5 p.m., or by calling (209) 575-6776 during these hours.
