Valley Home News for March 6, 2013

POSTED March 5, 2013 10:09 p.m.

We have received word that our Red Hat Queen, Margo and our Valley Home members of Oakdale’s Fun Lovin’ Ladies welcomed in our beautiful spring-like weather with a delicious luncheon and meeting at Bella Italia Restaurant in Modesto. The members of the group were able to enjoy viewing all the blossoming Almond orchards they passed along the way.

Speaking of Almond blossoms, our Valley Home community has really out done itself this year in a gorgeous array of blossoms. What a treat to drive out through the area by the Reservoir and see the wonderful show of rolling landscape covered with beautiful blooming Almond trees. If you haven’t had occasion to drive out in that direction for a while it will come as a surprise to see the land once filled with grazing cattle now covered with beautiful flowering trees.

Students at Valley Home school are looking forward to going to school this Thursday when the list of Honor Roll Awards will be announced.

Valley Home Parent Teacher Club meeting for this month will also be held that same afternoon at 3 p.m.

We know that with spring come the sounds of softball in the air. Our Valley Home softball star, Melinda Koppinger is already off to a good start in 2013. Melinda is a junior at Oakdale High School and is the daughter of Deborah and Jay Koppinger. Good luck this season Melinda, Valley Home is proud of you!

We are delighted to share the happy news that Jenna Heaton is returning to school this week after having been off for over two months while recovering from foot surgery. She is really looking forward to getting back to all the fun of High School again!

We all send our best wishes to Russ Carpenter in hope that he will feel better soon.

Let’s all remember to support our Valley Home 4-H’ers on March 16 at their Tri-Tip dinner. The dinner is always so delicious and also fun to attend, along with offering a great opportunity to not only just enjoy a delicious dinner, but also a nice opportunity to sit back, relax and visit with Valley Home friends and neighbors, something we don’t often get enough time to do in our everyday living.

Our community was saddened to hear that the home of long time Valley Home resident, Davell Dickens on Pioneer Avenue had burned down last week. Our thoughts are with the Dickens family!

*****

We have received word that the Traffic Study continues on Lone Tree Road, we will continue to follow the action.

If your Sweet Tooth has been sending messages, we have good news! A cure is in sight! Valley Home students are selling See’s Candy again for a field trip fundraiser.

Friends of the Escalon Library are having a membership drive. Individual membership is priced at $10.

Glenn and Laura Burghardt were treated to a trip up to the Arnold area on Saturday by son, Mike and grandson, Jeff. The group enjoyed an afternoon of hiking (for Mike and Jeff) and just plain relaxing for Laura and Glenn. Little patches of snow left over from the last storm still covered parts of the Big Trees park area and it was fun to watch groups of children enjoying an opportunity to toss a few snowballs while the adults worked on cooking dinner over a campfire. No visit to Big Trees is never complete without a visit to the Park gift store and little museum, lots of Park history and Nature books to be enjoyed.

*****

We send Happy Birthday Wishes to the Burghardt’s newlywed granddaughter, Kari Ward who celebrates her birthday today.
