The Knights Ferry Jr. High students hosted a very successful concert fundraiser on Saturday. The students would like to extend a very special thank you to Mrs. Kim McCarthy, Will Taylor, Chris Farris, The Bonemen, Randy Mandy band, and La Morenita in Modesto for all the help planning their fundraiser. The kids sold popcorn and baked goodies, served food, hosted a silent auction, and put on a cake walk all to get one step closer to earning enough money to go to Washington, D.C. in June 2018.

The first Citizens Unite meeting was held last week. It was a small group of both Knights Ferry and Valley Home citizens. The group is directing their efforts to find solutions for the lack of fire and law enforcement in the rural towns. If you would like to see change and to be a part of the solution to this problem, attend the Citizens Unite meetings. The next meeting is October 18 at 6:30 p.m., mark your calendars.

The regularly scheduled Community Club meeting in October has been cancelled due to a CPR class. This class is only available to the first 30 people who contact Dolly Haskell in the Post Office. It is a free, hands-on CPR class but does not include certification. The class was organized due to concerns of the increased response time in rural areas.

The Knights Ferry fifth through eighth graders hosted Shiloh Elementary for flag football and volleyball games on Friday. Knights Ferry’s football team defeated the competitors but unfortunately the volleyball teams weren’t as successful! It is a long-standing tradition for a few of the small schools in the area meet to compete in flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and a track meet.

The Knights Ferry cemetery is receiving some TLC on October 7 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a hot dog lunch served from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers are welcome and very appreciated for the event! Volunteers are asked to bring their decorations, flowers, bark, rock, and gardening tools. This is a great opportunity for service hours and to honor the community. Contact Vonnie Muniain 840-8058 for questions about the event and Carol Davis 881-3217 for monetary donations.

The cemetery holds the remains of many past residents of Knights Ferry. From the early 1800s to the present, and everywhere in between, the board owned and operated cemetery is quite a popular place to put loved ones to rest. From a seven-week-old innocent baby to an elderly woman and even a middle-aged criminal, all the grave sites have a special story.
