Knights Ferry News Week of July 9, 2014

Kaeli Sweet flew to Virginia Beach, Virginia, to visit her Uncle Adam and Aunt Tiffany. Hurricane Arthur, the first named storm of the season, went up the Atlantic seaboard also. We have to wait until Kaeli is home to find out how that experience was.

Knights Ferry News July 2, 2014

Stanislaus of Public Works has CHANGED THE DATES of the slurry seal on the town’s streets. New dates are July 7-8-9. The streets are to be sealed in the order as before, Monday-Dent past Vantine and Vantine and Main Street. Tuesday-Lynde, Shurl, Dean and the rest of Dent, Wednesday-Ellen and by the Plaza to Cemetery road. No cars or pedestrians are to be on the sealing job for two hours afterwards. Plan your day accordingly.

Knights Ferry News June 25, 2014

At the MAC meeting to be held Thursday, June 26th, the slurry seal of all the streets in the Ferry will be discussed. The meeting is at 7:00 p.m. at the clubhouse. The sealing of the streets will be July 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. There will be no cars or pedestrians allowed on the seal for two hours. The first streets to be done are Dent past Vantine and Vantine and Main Street on the 1st. The next day will be Lynde, Shurl, Dean and the rest of Dent. Knights Ferry News June 11, 2014

Knights Ferry School held its Graduation on June 3rd on the front of the school overlooking the river valley and town. Charlee Birdsong rang the bell to start the program. The eighth Graders processed in and then Kaeli Sweet led the Flag salute and Alyssa Sisco led the “Star Spangled Banner”. Speaker for the evening was Natalie Brockman, Paraprofessional and Band/ Music instructor. The sun rose through the pink tinted wispy clouds Easter Sunday to shine on the faithful assembled on Frymire Hill. Pastor Tanis, with his daughter and grandson, told of the appearance of his angel wife Sara Jean (mom, grandmother). She appeared to the grandson and daughter after the grandson was having trouble sleeping after Sara Jean’s death and the angel appeared and told him it was time for him to sleep in his own bed and led him there. At Public School’s Night, the Masons announced the winners of the essay contest. The students wrote on why the Masons were involved in Public Schools. First Place winners received a check for $50.00. Don and Gayle Diltz have returned from a trip to Dana Point where they went whale watching. There were Grey Whales and lots of dolphins. Then they went to Capistrano and got in on a St. Patrick’s Day celebration. They spent 4 days in that area and then went to Palm Springs where they enjoyed the 82-degree weather. In Indio Don and Gayle went to a date farm where they learned all about how they pollinate each tree by hand and then they got to taste a variety of dates.

Knights Ferry News Week of February 26, 2014

 

There have been sightings of a Golden Eagle in the Horseshoe/Orange Blossom road area. The Golden Eagle has a wingspan of 7 feet. It eats rabbits and rodents where the Bald Eagle eats fish. If you can get a close look at the Golden Eagle it has feathers down to its toes and the Bald Eagle’s legs are bare. There are more sightings of the Bald Eagle in this area as it eats fish.

At the MAC meeting last Thursday, Ric Feichter was chosen President and Dolly Haskell is Secretary. During Citizen Forum, the Oakdale Rural Fire Department and Rick from Stanislaus Consolidated talked on the possible merger of the two districts. Oakdale City Fire does not want to merge but will contract for services. If they merge it should have more resources available. Consolidated would own all and that raised a question of our local fire station since the town built it and sold it to Oakdale Rural for $1.00. Knights Ferry News Week of January 15, 2014

Knights Ferry School Board met Thursday at their new time - 5:30 p.m. This early time enables teachers to attend. The Board approved the Audit and the Board Policies. Superintendent Cheryl told of the installation of the public address system over vacation. This was a safety issue. The fiber optics line to the school has been turned on. There will be a mobile computer lab with 25 laptops coming next week so the students can take the tests for Common Core. Knights Ferry News Week of December 25, 2013

 

There was a packed clubhouse for the Knights Ferry School’s Winter Program. It opened with Julia Nilsson as Mistress of Ceremony and the K-4 students on stage and the 5-6 in the choir area singing “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” followed by “Frosty the Snowman” with Denali Benson as Frosty. Knights Ferry News Week of December 18, 2013

Pajama clad children, with blankets and pillows, enjoyed movie night in the Ferry. All the children and some of the parents were in their nightclothes. Hot chocolate and candy cane sticks were slurped and licked as the Muppets provided the entertainment. The theater chairs at the clubhouse for the adults were moved to surround the area full of children. It was an enjoyable night. Your reporter and hubby missed it because granddaughter Claire Krippner was in a basketball tournament playoff. Claire scored 4 baskets out of 5 for the second place trophy in the Lutheran League.

At the MAC meeting last Thursday Christie Dowd from the Stanislaus County Planning Department presented the tentative parcel division of the Thompsons. They want to divide 932 acres into 24 forty-acre parcels behind Horseshoe Road. Approximately 750 acres are now planted in almonds. The project proposes access to the property through a publicly maintained 30-foot wide easement off Horseshoe and they need a secondary access, proposed to Rodden Road. Two access roads are needed before anything can be done. Christine also presented the MAC with a letter from Nick Honchariw complaining about the Historical District’s 5-acre minimum parcel plan ...

Knights Ferry News Week of August 28, 2013

The Election filing period has ended and Knights Ferry School District has five candidates running for three board seats, incumbents Robert Brunker and Kym Cassaretto along with Sean McCarthy, Shavon Haskell and Diane Noon. The Municipal Advisory council has three openings with two candidates running unopposed for the two full term seats, Dolly Haskell and Brendt Noon. Cliff Howse is appointed for the short-term seat. For the Knights Ferry Community Service District two are running unopposed for three seats, Erich Ulrich and Brendt Noon, Jr.
