Taking three wins in four games played over the weekend, the Oakdale Insanity U19 soccer girls came home with consolation honors from the Dublin Shamrock Tournament.

Bracket play saw the team, which includes players from Oakdale, Riverbank, Escalon and Modesto, defeat Natomas by a 3-1 margin in their opening game on Saturday. Danae Rose (2) and Bianka Ibarra were the goal scorers, with Ibarra’s coming on a header off a corner kick, sent in by Rose for the assist. Other assists came from Jackie Valeriano and Ibarra. Keeper Melissa Ibarra had five saves. The girls cruised to a 5-0 shutout win over Vallejo in game two Saturday with goals from Rose (3) and Valeriano (1) in addition to an own goal from Vallejo. Notching assists were Logan Laugero, Valeriano, Vanessa Kualapai, Katelyn Jackson, Helena Hoover, Rose and Kennedy Codromac. Goalie Ibarra stopped four Vallejo shots on the day.

The Insanity girls faced off with the other top team in their bracket, Mustang Xplosion, on Sunday. The teams both amassed 19 points in their first two games on Saturday so the Sunday battle meant the winner would go on to the championship game against the top team from the other bracket, the loser to the consolation finals.

The Mustangs scored one goal in each half while keeping the Insanity off the board, shutting them down 2-0. Ibarra had six saves. The Danville-based Mustangs went on to claim championship honors in the tourney, defeating Ajax East Bay by a 2-1 final. Oakdale, meanwhile, battled to a 2-2 regulation tie in the consolation game against MDSA out of Mt. Diablo, with the teams then fighting through two scoreless five-minute overtime periods with some superb work by Ibarra in net, collecting eight saves. The game came down to penalty kicks, with the Insanity notching four out of five. Scoring on the PK shots for Oakdale were Patricia Jacobo, Jackie Valeriano, Denise Thompson and Danae Rose. MDSA got just two penalty shots in the net so the game was classified a 3-2 Oakdale victory and earned the girls a third place medal in the toughest match of the tournament.

“Great goaltending by Melissa, a great job on defense by Vanessa Kualapai, Amelia Hernandez and Helena Hoover, great header by Bianka,” Coach Brian Orr said of seeing some standout play in the four games. “Plus all midfielders and strikers, everyone played hard.”

Orr said he and coach Sebastian DeSales were happy to see the team bounce back after a tough first game loss on Sunday.

“The coaches were proud of the determination and perseverance of this team, they played with it all weekend, clinching the final game with PKs after double overtime,” Orr said.

Next, the girls will play in the annual Cassy Rowe Tournament at Cherry Island soccer complex, Aug. 23 and 24.

Team members are Katelyn Jackson, Allison Jackson, Taylor Thatcher, Helena Hoover, Danae Rose, Denise Thompson, Melissa Ibarra, Patricia Jacobo, Logan Laugero, Kaylee DeRuyter, Amelia Hernandez, Bianka Ibarra, Jassmine Vigil, Vanessa Kualapai, Jackie Valeriano, Jaylyne Serpa, Kennedy Codromac and Madisen Stoughtenborough.
