Oakdale MMA Fighters Prep For Event

POSTED April 2, 2014 1:30 p.m.

Art Of War Productions will have an action packed event at Jamestown’s Chicken Ranch Casino on Saturday, April 12 appropriately named “The Biggest Little Show In California.” The City of Oakdale will be represented greatly as former OHS graduates will enter the cage in intense battles.

Michael Gall, a 2010 OHS graduate, will be in action as he squares off against Ceres native Mike Tubera for the vacant Flyweight Title.

“He’s a scrappy fighter. He has a wrestling background. I’ve been looking forward to this for almost a year now,” said Gall. “I don’t think about my fights too much. I do better with short notice. My main focus is on me, my training, and my teammates.”

Gall met with Oakdale MMA (Mix Martial Arts) owner Tom Theofanopoulos when he was seven years old and has been a loyal student under him for the last 15 years. Gall has an amateur record of 6-5.

Cesar Gomez of Waterford will also be in action. Gomez, who is a perfect 4-0 in combat, will be fighting Tanner Marlow for the vacant Welterweight Title Belt. Gomez is the current Waterford High School wrestling coach and joined Oakdale MMA last month.

“I was at another gym for two years, but I transferred to Oakdale because of my coaching schedule. I come from a wrestling family. If you go to Waterford and just mention our last name, people will always have the same reaction, you mean the wrestlers?,” Gomez noted. “In fact, I was stripped of my title due to my wrestling schedule, but I plan on bringing it back home with me.

“I was intimidated when I approached Tom. He is a big name, a true legend in the MMA business,” added Gomez. “But he opens doors, his heart, and his time to all of us and I admire the man. I am truly grateful to be here and representing Oakdale MMA.”

Other Oakdale MMA representatives will be Lamar “The Lion King” Reed competing in the Main Event as he faces Michael Persons for the vacant Pro Welterweight Title. In the co-main event, Ryan “The Executioner” Tobar will grapple against Baby Ray Cervera for the Pro Lightweight Title. The doors open at 2:30 p.m. and fights begin at 4 p.m.

General admission is $40 while front row seats are $80 with V.I.P. seating available for $55.
