Fishing Report

Last week I wrote about taking my dad out fishing for the day. The response I got from that column highlighted what I believe is a growing trend among today’s youth. There are far too many of them that have never been fishing. I can understand a kid that is 10 or 12 years old, but there are teens out there that have yet to go fishing. While doing a little research on the Internet, I came across an article where the author challenged his readers to take at least two kids out fishing each year. I really hope ...

Fishing Report

I’ve been putting off changing the bunks on my boat’s trailer for several years now. Anyone who owns a boat knows that the boards the boat rests on eventually wear down. Several years ago I made some replacement bunks and have been meaning to swap them out as soon as I had a chance. The biggest problem was that in order to swap out the bunks I needed the boat off the trailer. Yesterday, I was finally able to do just that as I had my 11-year-old son watching my boat while I was swapping out the bunks ...

Fishing Report

Thanks to TV and Bassmaster Magazine I knew from the first time I watched or read about a bass tournament that I wanted to compete in one. I visualized what it would be like, kept records of my daily catches, and compared my catches to the catches of others. Once I was old enough, I entered my first tournament. I didn’t do nearly as well as I believed I would but I was hooked and couldn’t wait for the next tournament. After several years with several wins and a lot more losses, I began to realize that fishing ...

26th Annual Sonoma Nationals Showcase Strong Performances

Qualifying runs at the 26th Annual NHRA Sonoma Nations at the Sonoma Raceway produced many exciting performances, but the July 28 eliminations added more. The outstanding track conditions seen during the Friday night qualifying sessions reappeared during the first round of eliminations, for those teams that could get the right tuning set up. With it came a few upsets, where lower qualified cars defeated higher qualified cars and track records lowered. In Top Fuel, Morgan Lucas in his Geico/Lucas Oil dragster defeated TJ Zizzo in his Peak Oil dragster with a 3.757 at 328.30 mph to 3 ...

FISHING REPORT

Five years ago I purchased a 75 gallon fish tank from someone selling it on Craigslist. I got a really good deal on it, my son was five at the time, and what kid doesn’t want a fish tank! Since then, I’ve learned a lot from observing the fish in my tank. One of the many things that I’ve observed was their reaction to temperature change. If the temperature changes too much either higher or lower they tend to go into a state of shock as they become very lethargic until their bodies adjust to it. What ...
