City Sees High Crime Weekend

A depleted Oakdale Police Force was busy over the weekend in gang related incidents that started with Friday afternoon gunshots and then greater problems of a stabbing outside the Battered Beaver Bar in the early morning hours on Saturday, a person shot outside 7-11 on West F Street at midnight Saturday night, and a forcible assault reported early Sunday morning.

Reward Offered In Barry Case

The family and friends of Blake Barry, the victim of a hit and run fatal accident on Dec. 29, 2013 in Waterford, is offering a reward starting at $10,000 in the case. The reward will grow as donations are received, and is designed to reward persons for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the hit and run death of Barry. The incident occurred in the 12500 block of Dorsey Street in Waterford.

Police Sweep Nets Guns, Drugs

 

Oakdale Police in coordination with members of the Stanislaus Sheriff’s Department and Stanislaus Probation Department conducted a gang suppression operation and arrested three Oakdale residents during a probation search of a residence in the 1100 block of West G Street. Police recovered an illegal shotgun and narcotic offenses also resulted from the action.

Police responded to a family disturbance in the 600 block of South Sierra Avenue on Thursday night, May 8 and found a man had been stabbed in the abdominal area. A 16-year-old juvenile was subsequently arrested for the stabbing.

Police Presence - Forces Converge After Shots Fired Call

Gun shots that were initially believed to be fired at an Oakdale police officer late afternoon on Jan. 29 resulted in a multi-agency dragnet and the eventual arrest of two suspects. No officers were hurt or struck by the gunfire and by the end of the evening, both suspects were in jail. Police later determined the shot fired was “accidental” by one of the suspects who had just committed a burglary.

The red, white and blue pole that has been out in front of Norm’s Barber Shop on West F Street in Oakdale for over 45 years has been stolen. The theft occurred overnight, sometime between when the business closed on Wednesday, Jan. 16 and re-opened the next day. The iconic barber pole was ripped off the wooden structure that it had been attached to for years.
