The sky was colored blue, yellow, red and purple as over 700 Oakdale Junior High School students participated in the Second Annual Color Run on Friday, Oct. 6. According to event coordinator Sarah Nelson, preliminary numbers for the event show over $20,000 collected by the students through sponsorships.

“We wanted to make the course a little larger,” Nelson said of changes made for the second year of the event.

Students circled the campus, the adjacent Cottles Woods Park and then returned to campus, clocking a one mile course. Students pacing a bit on the faster side were encouraged to run two laps around the course and experience more color.

A total of 800 pounds of color was used to throw, shoot and leaf blow at the running students. Proceeds from the event go toward varying activities including: teacher expenses, eighth grade field trip, pentathlon and the school talent show.

“It’s just so fun,” Nelson said. “The happy kids at the end make it well worth it.”
