There is indeed no rest for the weary in the way of education. Today marks the final ‘official’ day of Summer Break 2014 as students, teachers and administrators throughout the Oakdale Joint Unified School District prepare for the first day of school.

Tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 7 marks the first day of school for all schools of the OJUSD, with alarm clocks sure to be ringing at an early hour. Valley Home School, meanwhile, begin classes today, Aug. 6 at 8:15 a.m. and Knights Ferry School resumes next Thursday, Aug. 14, also at 8:15 a.m.

Although this Thursday marks the start date for all students, including those entering the hallways for the first time, upper grade campuses were abuzz this past week as students prepared for the coming year at Oakdale Junior High and Oakdale High School. Round up events were hosted at both campuses, offering students the opportunity to get class schedules, books, purchase gym clothes and yearbooks, and take student ID photos.

Now commonplace for the two school sites, campus administrators reported the events went off seamlessly and as planned. OJHS will welcome 780 students this school year, 384 of which are incoming seventh graders. OHS has an estimated 1,680 students on its enrollment list, with the largest class being the incoming freshmen, the Class of 2018, at 469 students. East Stanislaus rounds out the upper grade numbers with an 81-student enrollment.

The four elementary schools, Cloverland, Fair Oaks, Sierra View and Magnolia, will open their doors to welcome a combined total of 362 kindergarten students. Overall enrollment for each school site is estimated to be: Cloverland, 518 students; Fair Oaks, 850 students; Magnolia, 601 and Sierra View, 690.

Start times for each of the campuses is as follows: Cloverland 8:10 a.m.; Fair Oaks 8 a.m.; Magnolia 7:50 a.m.; Sierra View 8:05 a.m.; OJHS 8 a.m.; OHS 7:40 a.m. and East Stanislaus 7:40 a.m.

All sites will also be hosting the traditional ‘Back to School’ nights for parents in the coming weeks.
