Driver In Accident Arrested In Homicide

POSTED May 7, 2018 3:43 p.m.

A Modesto man arrested in connection with a rural Oakdale homicide is the same man who crashed his car into an oncoming vehicle on Tuesday, May 1 along Highway 120 east of Escalon.

Authorities on Monday released the name of the man arrested, identified as William Schendel, 54, of Modesto. He is accused in the death of Aimee Crawford, 40, of Oakdale, who was found deceased in her home on Tuesday afternoon, May 1 in the 13000 block of Horseshoe Road.

“We did get confirmation of that fact,” Escalon Fire Chief Rick Mello said of Schendel being the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash as well as the homicide suspect.

He was identified as the suspect in Crawford’s death and taken into custody by authorities on Thursday, May 3.
