Motorcyclist Suffers Fatal Injuries In Early Thursday Morning Crash

POSTED February 1, 2017 10:47 a.m.

A 37-year-old man died as a result of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash early Thursday morning, Jan. 26 along the Oakdale-Waterford Highway.

A spokeswoman at the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Donald Pendergrass, 37, of Waterford and said he was driving a 2015 Yamaha motorcycle when the incident occurred.

A 23-year-old Oakdale woman, in a 2001 Honda, was driving southbound on the Oakdale-Waterford Highway north of Alvarado Road, making a left turn into a private driveway in the 6300 block of the highway. Pendergrass was riding his motorcycle northbound on the highway, at or above the 55 mile per speed limit, when the Honda turned in to his path.

According to the CHP report, the Yamaha then collided with the left front of the Honda, ejecting Pendergrass from the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Oak Valley paramedics shortly before 6 a.m.; the crash occurred at 5:35 a.m.

CHP officers said the headlight of the Yamaha motorcycle was working properly at the time of the collision. The driver of the Honda, who was not charged in the incident, had minor injuries and was going to seek her own aid. The Honda came to rest facing in a southeasterly direction on the east shoulder of the Oakdale-Waterford Highway; the motorcycle came to rest on its left side on the west dirt shoulder of the highway.
