While the economy remains tough, you may see some empty storefronts or the occasional ‘going out of business’ sign, but that is not the case for locally owned and operated A&M Tires and Wheels at 9837 Highway 120 in Oakdale. Small business owner Alex Ruiz opened the doors to A&M approximately two years ago and business is good. Tires and wheels are his business and he started in the tire industry in 1995, working for Big O Tires in Oakdale and Manteca before branching out with his own private shop.

The new owners of the flower shop at 304 F St., downtown Oakdale, are a family. Leanne Hunteman and Cydni Staal are a mother and daughter team that work very well together. Other family members have jumped on board to help the business bloom, like Staal’s daughters, Hannah, Haleigh, Elizabeth, and her brother, Matt Gordon. Judy Elam, Leanne’s cousin, is the store manager and according to Hunteman, a true cowgirl. Elam is also a calf buyer and makes trips to Oregon to pick up cattle when she’s not busy in the shop.

There was quite the stir in the parking lot at Drs. Jeff and Jody Sceville’s dentist office, on Thursday, Nov. 1.  The Sceville’s were hosting the third annual “Candy Buy Back.”  They give youngsters the opportunity to turn in their candy for cash and then the candy will be shipped to soldiers overseas.  They had a thank you card station set up so that anyone could design a card for the troops which will be shipped to them with the candy.  They buy the candy back for $2 dollars a pound, the kids get a ‘goodie bag’, and ...

The owners of the Oakdale Bicycle Shop may have changed, but the main featured item is still bicycles. Dave Enz took over the shop on Oct. 1 and has plans to do some renovations.
