The regular season has come to a close for both Oakdale baseball and softball teams. Both varsity squads were crowned Valley Oak League champions and were awarded with a pair of home games to start the postseason.

Monday, May 14 saw the first playoff game for the Lady Mustangs softball team. Oakdale earned the top seed in the CIF Division III Championship and hosted No. 16 seeded Bethel. It didn’t turn out to be much of a contest, as the host Lady Mustangs roughed up their opponent in a 17-0 opening round victory.

Bethel plays in the Solano County Athletic Conference where they finished the season 8-12 overall, 6-9 in league and placed fourth in their league.

With the Monday night win in hand, Oakdale next hosts Christian Brothers, which was the winner of their Monday game on the road at Patterson. The second round game is scheduled for Wednesday, May 16 at 4 p.m. in Oakdale. Christian Brothers went in as the ninth seed and Patterson was the eighth seed. If the Lady Mustangs are victorious on Wednesday against Christian Brothers, the tournament shifts to Arnaiz Fields in Stockton beginning Saturday with game time to be determined. The championship game is scheduled for Wednesday, May 23 at Arnaiz Sports Complex scheduled for 5 p.m.

Vanden, Vista del Lago, Pioneer, American Canyon, Casa Roble, Beyer, Golden Valley, Pacheco, East Union, Yuba City, Benicia and Laguna Creek round out the field of 16 teams in DIII.

On Tuesday, May 15 – after press time for The Leader – the Oakdale varsity boys hosted Pacheco in a three seed vs. 14 seed matchup. The No. 14 Panthers of Pacheco went 11-8-1 overall and 6-4 in the Western Athletic Conference this year. The Panthers finished third in the conference and had lost three straight games heading into the postseason. If Oakdale won the Tuesday first round home game, they would host Beyer or Vista del Lago on Thursday, May 17 with the time yet to be determined. The championship game is scheduled for Monday, May 28 at Sacramento State with the time to be determined. Christian Brothers are the top seed in the Division III bracket. Rosemont, Manteca, American Canyon, Sierra, Placer, Los Banos, Pioneer, Beyer, Vista del Lago, Rio Americano, Vanden, Yuba City and Bethel complete the field of 16 hopefuls.
