Strong Outing For Mustangs At County Meet

Oakdale’s track and field season opened up on Thursday, March 8 when they welcomed in Weston Ranch. Oakdale made short work of the visiting Cougars at all levels. The varsity boys won 78-48, while the varsity girls destroyed the opposition with a 117-6 win.

On Friday the teams went to Turlock for the Stanislaus County Meet. The girls fell a half a point behind first place Pitman to finish second overall at 116.5 points. Sophomore Kayden Legan set a school record in the 3200 meters with a time of 11:57.50 and finished third in the event. Legan also finished fourth in the 1600 meters.

Freshman discus thrower Emma Harper set a personal record and took first place with a major throw of 120-09, six feet further than the second place thrower. Fellow freshman Jessica Jericoff threw for fourth place at 102-1. The Lady Mustangs shot put saw Angelica Lowry place second at 36-01 and Hallie Morton earn third at 35-02. Senior Cassie England had a big outing in Turlock as she placed second in the triple jump, fourth in the long jump and fourth in the high jump. Fellow senior Courtney Dickens placed fourth in the 200 meters. Kyndall Green had a big weekend when she placed third in the 100 meter hurdles and second in the pole vault.

In boys action, the Mustangs placed fourth overall with 81.5 team points. Football standout Josh Jacobson placed third in the 200 meters and fourth in the 100 meters. Senior James Forkner set a personal record in the 3200 meters. Jace Krick earned a third place finish in the 110 meter hurdles for the Mustangs. Also in hurdle action Cameron Burke placed third in the 300 meters. The team of Zeke Saffar, Hunter Falconi, Josh Jacobson and Makai Harris earned second place in the 4x100 relay. Falconi and Andrew Hardman tied for fourth place in the high jump. In shot put Jorge Barajas placed fourth overall, while sophomore Ben Chappell earned third in the discus.

The Mustangs will return to Valley Oak League action when they travel to Sierra High School on Thursday, March 15 at 3:30 p.m.
