The Oakdale High School varsity boys basketball program came up short in their two games this past week. Oakdale fell to visiting Kimball 62-37 and dropped a game to Lathrop 62-53 in Valley Oak League action.

In their home loss to Kimball (12-12, 5-6) Oakdale (8-16, 2-10) led it 9-7 at the end of the first quarter but struggled to find any rhythm offensively the rest of the night. Drew Legan led the team in scoring with 21 points in the loss.

Two nights later, it was not a very warm Winter Homecoming 2018 as the visiting Spartans (8-16, 5-6) spoiled the festivities. In what was a tight game throughout, the Mustangs trailed 29-20 at the break and outscored the Spartans 15-12 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 41-35 entering the final frame. Making a big contribution in the contest was junior guard John Foreman who went six-of-nine from beyond the arc scoring a total of 18 points for the Mustangs. Legan scored a game high 24 points including 13 in the second half. The Spartans proved to be too much for the Mustangs, though, as they finished the game on a 17-9 run in the final 5:40 of the contest.

Oakdale has three games remaining in their season and they host Manteca (10-14, 6-5) on Wednesday, Feb. 7 for Senior Night 2018. Oakdale will be honoring their four seniors: Drew Legan, Marc Dickson, Cesar Garcia and Jace Krick. Tipoff for the team’s final home game is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Mustangs finish their season on the road as they travel to Modesto to face first place Central Catholic (22-2, 11-0) on Friday night, Feb. 9 and wrap up the season Wednesday, Feb. 14 at Sierra (11-13, 6-5) with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

JUNIOR VARSITY

It was a difficult loss for the junior varsity boys against Kimball. Oakdale fell to the visiting Jaguars 57-54, despite leading throughout most of the game. Oakdale’s freshman guard Jonah Norman scored 21 points in the loss. Oakdale followed up the Wednesday game with a 75-47 home loss to Lathrop just two days later.

FRESHMEN

It took nine games, but Oakdale’s freshman Mustang boys suffered their first loss of the regular season when they fell to visiting Kimball 56-52. Oakdale had three scorers with at least 10 points in the game including Robert Silva, who led all scorers with 14. Oakdale regrouped and answered with a 58-41 home win over Lathrop to kick off the Friday night Homecoming festivities. Silva once again showed his dominance down low, scoring a game high 24 points. Silva scored 18 of his 24 points in the paint.
