The Oakdale High School boys’ water polo season stayed afloat with an 11-3 first round victory. On Friday, Nov. 3 the fourth ranked Mustangs defeated fifth ranked Dixon in the opening round of the 2017 CIF Sac-Joaquin playoffs. The boys won the contest behind goalkeeper Logan Cary’s brilliant defensive efforts.

The defense held Davis to one goal in the first quarter and then held them to a scoreless stretch of nearly 10 minutes before they scored back-to-back goals in the third.

Oakdale leaped out to an early lead and never looked back. Ethan Perry scored three second half goals for the Mustangs to help lift them on the offensive side of the ball. Aron Cameron was also a big contributor for Oakdale as he scored multiple goals and played stellar defense.

Oakdale’s road to the finals will have to go through the top seed Christian Brothers in the semifinals. This semifinal showdown is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 9 a.m. at Tokay High School. Christian Brothers defeated Pacheco, the eighth seed, on Friday night 15-7 to advance. The winner of this game will take on the winner of Sonora (second seed) and seventh seed El Camino in the finals. The finals are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 11 at American River College in Sacramento at 9:30 a.m.
