This past week the boys of the gridiron played in a pair of non-conference games. Oakdale clashed with Division I powerhouse Folsom in freshman and junior varsity action.

On Thursday night Oakdale defeated Folsom on the road 19-14. The Mustang Ponies defeated the home team using tough defense, a highly efficient running game and a balanced passing attack. Oakdale is now 3-0 in the preseason and will host Tracy in a non-conference showdown on Thursday night, Sept. 14 with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.

The junior varsity team hosted Folsom in front of a large crowd inside The Corral on Friday night. Oakdale’s defense entered the game not giving up a point in their first two preseason games, but it did not take Folsom very long to get in the end zone. One minute and 20 seconds into the first quarter, Folsom scored and did not let up on the Mustang Colts. Folsom defeated Oakdale 56-7.

Oakdale got on the board late on a three yard rushing touchdown by Leo Ayala with 9:17 left in the game. The Mustang Colts will look to regroup as they head into the bye week this week. The junior varsity boys will head up to Manteca to square off against East Union in the Valley Oak League opener on Friday, Sept. 22 with kickoff scheduled for 5 p.m.
