A 12-day layoff did not affect the Oakdale High School girls tennis team as they won their season opener.

On Tuesday, Sept. 5 the girls defeated Weston Ranch 9-0 on the road to win their lone match of the week. In singles action junior Lijian Bacud defeated Karmen Basra 6-1, 6-2 in straight sets. Also retiring Weston Ranch in straight sets were singles competitors Tayla Barry, Mackenzie Brown, Tavin Barry, Breanna Morgan and Shannen Yang.

In doubles action all three teams made short work of Weston Ranch, winning in straight sets. Megann Pierson and Allison Koelmans won 6-0, 6-1. Kendra Branch and Cailie Rariden were victorious 6-2, 6-0. Paige Morgan and Savannah Gustafson also won their match 6-2, 6-1.

Oakdale’s home opener against East Union was postponed due to transportation issues for East Union on Thursday, Sept. 7. Oakdale hosted Kimball on Tuesday, Sept. 12 following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale is slated to play at Lathrop on Thursday, Sept. 14 and will return home on Tuesday, Sept. 19 to host Sierra. All matches are scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
