Thursday, April 6 Oakdale hosted East Union and the track and field Mustangs made short work of the Lancers. The varsity girls defeated East Union 100-36, the varsity boys won in a lopsided 117-15 decision, and the junior varsity boys and girls took care of business as well.

For the varsity boys it was Justin Crescenti on top of the high jump at five feet, eight inches. Michael Everett powered his way to a 136 foot toss of the discus, and Jorge Barajas placed second in the discus at 120 feet. Francisco Vargas took first in the 100 meter hurdles. Cade Middaugh took first in the 1600 meter race for Oakdale. In the 100 meter race Josh Jacobson took first with Makai Harris just a few footsteps behind him.

Since their long unbeaten streak came to a close in late March, the varsity girls have found new focus and are currently 3-0 since that loss. Thursday saw another solid effort by the Lady Mustangs. Sara Stevens took first in the 800 meter race, Mikayla Wong took first in pole vault, Samantha Nickerson claimed first in the high jump and taking first in the discus was Kyndall Vargas. In the 3200 meter race Kayden Legan placed first for the Lady Mustangs.

Meanwhile, just a couple of days later, the girls found themselves unexpectedly struggling once again and managed just a tenth place finish on April 8 at the Hughson Vintage Invitational. The event was held at Turlock High School where 21 teams were invited to participate. Oakdale’s big highlight of the event came in the form of their 4x100 meter relay team. The foursome of Sara Stevens, Marnelle Salie, Paris Thompson and Courtney Dickens finished the event in third place with a time of 55.13.

Oakdale will travel to Lathrop for a meet against the Spartans on Thursday, April 13 with a scheduled start time of 3:30 p.m. Following the meet Oakdale will be off until April 27 for Spring Break.
