The Oakdale golf boys are off to a 4-0 start in the Valley Oak League action. This past week Oakdale knocked off visiting Central Catholic and East Union, and took first place honors on Monday, March 6 in their annual Oakdale Cup event.

Oakdale welcomed 18 teams from the area to Oakdale Golf and Country Club for the Oakdale Cup. The Mustangs took home first place after scoring a team low 394 through 18 holes. To give you an idea of the team’s dominance, Ceres shot a second place score of 438.

Oakdale’s Calvin Reed finished one stroke behind Escalon’s Zack Gardner in individual competition. Reed shot 72 on the day. Rounding out the rest of the scoring for the first place Mustangs were Max Moore (75), David Myrtakis (81) Zackary Tamburrino (81), Tristan Jaramillo and Paul Goodreau (104).

“The weather was nice and it is always great to see these other teams. I think everyone enjoys the day out here,” Oakdale coach Lee McGhee said.

On Wednesday, March 8 the boys welcomed the Raiders of Central Catholic to town for VOL play. Reed picked up where he left off from Monday and shot a team low 36 through nine holes. Oakdale’s Myrtakis (40), Moore (44) Jaramillo (46) Josh Barrera (46) and Tamburrino (48) finished out the scoring as Oakdale won the match 212-228.

The following day Oakdale hosted previously unbeaten East Union in an early battle for first place in the VOL. Reed capped off his impressive week on top of the leaderboard yet again as he shot a 38 over nine holes for the Mustangs. Myrtakis (43), Barrera (44), Jack Verdegaal (44) Moore (46), Jaramillo (46) and Tamburrino (47) rounded out the Mustangs. Oakdale won 217-255 over the Lancers.

The Mustangs will travel to play Lathrop today, Wednesday, March 15 and will host Manteca on Thursday, March 16 at 3 p.m.
