The Oakdale Gold 12U Little League baseball team fought its way to the championship contest only to be edged out by the Ripon All-Stars in a 5-4 classic.
Oakdale cruised to a 3-0 record heading into the championship game, but an equally strong Ripon squad gave the Gold their first loss of the tournament season.
Oakdale hosted the entire tournament at Fair Oaks Elementary School field in the competition that ran from June 18 through 22. The Gold got things going in a hurry with a 9-2 win over the Ceres Grey team to win their opener.
The squad found itself matched up with a young Riverbank team next and cruised to victory, 23-5, in game two action. Tracy gave the Oakdale Gold its first significant challenge, putting up a valiant fight before falling to the Gold 6-4, pushing Oakdale into the Championship contest.
The Gold got solid contributions in the tournament finale with Christian Johnson going 2-for-2 as did teammate Beau Courtroul. CJ Bachman stroked a double in the loss, while teammates Caden Farquer and Hunter Carlton both added singles.
As an upcoming fundraiser, the Parents of the Oakdale Baseball Association will be conducting its first of what will hopefully become an annual event, Poker Night, set for July 18 at the Oakdale Rodeo Grounds. All proceeds will go toward O.B.A. and prizes will be issued for first, second, third and fourth place.
O.B.A. will be providing dinner, desert, non-alcoholic beverages, followed by the Texas Hold-em Card Tournament. Also a silent auction will be conducted for many valuable items. The price is $50 per person. For ticket information contact Tammy Courtroul at (209) 847-8528. Seating is limited so contact Courtroul as soon as possible.
