'Tis the season for cute kids and cookie boxes. Personally, we get sucked in every year as we find ourselves supporting a friend and their troop. Then of course there are the girls outside the grocery and yes, if I have $5 you better believe we walk away with a box or two.
February 2016 marks the beginning of the 15th year that I first entered the old brick building at 122 South Third Ave. known as the location of the Oakdale Leader. All these years later, it's still mind boggling to me.
By definition 'soul food' is a noun, defined by Merriam-Webster as: "food (as chitterlings, ham hocks and collard greens) traditionally eaten by southern black Americans." With origins dating back to the mid-sixties, it is safe to say that its definition may have morphed a bit in the way of mainstream thinking.
I don't believe in New Year Resolutions. I'm a goal setter. Perhaps it's all just a mind game, but there is something easier about losing your way while attaining a goal rather than 'breaking a resolution.'
