Our young County Fair entrants are enjoying a well-earned rest following the close of the fair activities. We received information that Savannah Rogers and Nikki Truhett rode their horses and competed in the fair Gymkhana and did very well in their events. We heard that both young people spent last week showing their swine.
Gunter Brisi won advanced showmanship in the meat goat class for 4-H and went on to compete against the other 4-H and FFA members last Thursday evening in Master Showmanship Class in which he had to show a goat, beef, dairy, swine and horse. He showed ...

Members of the Oakdale Garden Club are the first group to answer the request by members of the Valley Home Community Center Board of Directors, for help in planting trees at the new Valley Home Community Park. Following a discussion of what type of tree to plant, member, Rosalie Osman made a motion for members to plant four types of Oak trees, which would include the local native Oak. We have just received this welcome news concerning Richard Mullins from his daughter, Tena. Tena, and her family, would like to offer "a very heartfelt thank you to everyone who has helped, and offered word of comfort and prayers during our Dad's illness…he is doing much better and is home now. Thank you! Thank you! And a special thank you to our wonderful firemen and paramedics, who have taken such good care whenever they have been called upon! Valley Home News for July 22, 2009

The temperature this last week in our community has been warm, especially the first part of the week up to news submission time. The report given to us was at least six days over 100 degrees. We know that this is the San Joaquin Valley and this is July and put those two together and what you get is hot weather but we have been spoiled a bit in early July with a small reduction in the heat. We can wish for it to return but be prepared no matter what direction it goes.

The Valley Home Parents Teacher Club (PTC) would like to invite you to a summer meeting on Tuesday, July 21st at 6:30 p.m. in the Gym on the Pioneer Avenue campus. Have you seen it? Seen what? The picnic table pavilion on the Valley Home Community Center Park site. Yes, it has happened. The park construction has started again and is moving along nicely. Next group of things to get accomplished is the laying of the cement for the pavilion floor, the sidewalks and other miscellaneous pads, the installation of the sprinkler system, the electric wiring, and then on to the next group. We received word from proud Grandmother, Shirley Butler, that granddaughter, Molly Smith graduated from California State University on June 14th. Molly graduated cum laude and honors, with a Bachelor in Political Science. Valley Home News For June 17, 2009

This week's news starts with the report of an incident that happened at the Valley Home School on Sunday, June 7. At about 2:30 p.m. a young boy was riding his bicycle in the area when a man in a white truck jumped out of the truck and assaulted the boy, shoving him to the ground, and stole his bicycle. The bicycle was put it into the back of the truck and the man drove off.

Valley Home 4-H members celebrated their final meeting of the year on Tuesday, June 2, with their traditional "end of the year" barbecue! The group met at the Valley Home School old campus, with the Club providing hot dogs and the members bringing either a dessert or side dish. The food was great and there was lots of fun all around. There is excitement in the air as members are beginning to get ready now for the fair this summer.

Our members of Oakdale's Fun Lovin' Ladies are all getting gussied up in their purple outfits and making that important decision on which one of their Red Hats to select for their February 6th meeting. The group will travel to Modesto this month to partake of the cuisine offered at Minnie's Restaurant. Just a reminder to be certain to give Cookie a ring at 847-0761, if you need to cancel or have not made your reservation, as we need to confirm with the restaurant how many to expect.

Oak Valley Art Society members met at the Escalon Library on Saturday, and members enjoyed a very informative program on art techniques offered by long time member, and prize winning artist, Dorothy Girling. Due to a mix-up, the artist scheduled to demonstrate that day was unavailable and the group was treated to a very enjoyable program by Dorothy, who offered helpful hints to the group on working with pastels and various and helpful hints on that medium.

Our Valley Home MAC committee will be meeting tonight, January 16 at the Valley Home school. The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. in the school library. These meetings are a wonderful way to keep the line between the residents and the county representatives. There will be reports of what has happened since last meeting, what is scheduled to happen in the near future and also an opportunity to report a problem that may need to be forwarded to the county leaders. Be at the meeting and see what is going on in your part of the county.

We received word that Cooper Bartholomew had a great time celebrating his sixth birthday on New Year's Day. Cooper celebrated with friends and family on New Year's Eve. We hope that Santa was able to make his visit to our Valley Home area and deliver a sleigh full of Christmas cheer even though he was greeted by rainy weather! Valley Home residents were still able to enjoy wending their way through our streets in the rain, and enjoy the colorful display of lighted homes. Even though we had to undergo heavy rain at times, the lights were enveloped in a misty glow that was beautiful to see.

Lots of excitement emanating from Valley Home School today as the Valley Home PTC throw open the doors for their annual Christmas gift store for the students. The Christmas Store is a much anticipated highlight of the year for the students. Students have an opportunity to look for and purchase gifts for their families. Prices are kept low and members of the PTC are on hand to wrap the items the students purchase so their selections are all ready for Christmas giving. It was a cold and foggy evening on Saturday, however, it didn't dampen the spirits of all those who gathered to view our annual Valley Home Community Christmas Parade. Christmas spirit and warmth filled the air as residents gathered and lined the streets to watch the colorful annual Christmas Lighted Parade as it wound its way through the center of town.

Our Valley Home 4-H'ers are very proud to announce the 2012 Grand Marshall for our "Old Tyme Christmas Parade". Our 2012 Grand Marshal is Mr. Marcel Dickens and his lovely wife, Kathy. Marcel was a Valley Home 4-H community leader several years ago. He and his wife have been very active in their Valley home community. At present, their grandson, Austin is very involved in Valley Home 4-H and also very active within the community. This week has been a busy week for our 4-H'ers and we are told that next week promises to be even busier! The members will be working on their Christmas float entry this Friday night at the Barretto family ranch. The group will be putting the finishing touches on their delightful Candy House entry for the Lighted Escalon Christmas Parade in which they will ride and wave at viewers on Saturday, December 1st during the evening on Main Street in Escalon. This past week our Valley Home 4-Hers celebrated their accomplishments during the past months with a delicious dinner and awards ceremony. Special guests for the evening were Mrs. Jan Hempleman, former Valley Home 4-H leader and Mr. Ken Wilmarth, retired Stanislaus County 4-H Program Director.
