Valley Home 4-Hers Dan Fletcher, Nathan Soares, T.J. Verdegaal and Halley Smith participated in Stanislaus county 4-H Livestock Proficiency Day in the areas of Beef, Swine and Meat Goats. They were tested in their knowledge of parts ID, equipment ID, judging, grooming/fitting, showing and general knowledge in their species.

VALLEY HOME NEWS

Valley Home 4-H members will be hosting their Annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 3 at noon on the grounds of the "old" school. The "Hunt" is always a fun event for young and old.

We have received word that the 4-H Spaghetti dinner which was scheduled for March 19 has been postponed for now. The group tells us that a dinner fundraiser will be scheduled for later in the spring.

Valley Home residents are looking forward to two evenings of fun this month starting off with the Valley Home School PTC sponsored 2nd Annual Bunko Night being held on Friday evening, March 12th. There is nothing like birthday festivities to brighten up an otherwise overcast Saturday afternoon! We received news from Hazel Rushman that husband, Pete's granddaughter, Haydin Hale turned two years old on Sunday, celebrating the occasion with a party held at Chuck E. Cheese in Modesto. The birthday cake was decorated in pink and white frosting with a Cinderella theme and shared by all, with Haydin enjoying her very own small cake with a Cinderella figure on top. The Social is always a fun filled evening as members have a great time bidding on beautifully decorated boxes and baskets brimming with tasty goodies guaranteed to tempt the palates of the bidders. Surveys are being taken, in the Valley Home area, as the Stanislaus County Redevelopment Agency is required by law to gather information for an implementation plan for 2010 through 2015. This information is to address conditions within designated redevelopment areas. This can include public infrastructure, facilities and deteriorating buildings to name a few.

Sharon Hofmann shares the following information on the installation of newly elected officers for St. John's Lutheran Church. The installation will be held on Sunday, January 24th. Our Red Hat Queen, Bonny Bianchi reports that members of Oakdale's Fun Lovin' Ladies welcomed in the New Year with a meeting and lunch at Café Bravo in Oakdale on January 6th. Plans are already in the works to visit Bocelli's Restaurant (Old Garlic House) for their second meeting of the New Year on February 3rd. Valley Home 4-H member Jenna Heaton and Garrett and Justin Martin traveled to the Arizona National Livestock Show this past week to show their animals. We received word that all three had an exciting time and did great showing of their animals and representing our Valley Home community very well. Congratulations to all three young people! Valley Home residents have enjoyed an exciting year of events! In January the O.H.S. Decathlon Team met at Valley Home members Evan Boggs and Ryan Burghardt's homes, to gear up for the event with 6 hour practice sessions. Former resident Chad Burghardt joined the Navy and during training, out of 933 recruits, graduated with one of the highest honors, the Navy League Award for superior performance of duty in addition to other awards.

Good news has been received that the Valley Home Community Center park project is on the move forward again. Several volunteers have made themselves available for different jobs and the result is welcomed progress. The project of getting the ballard (a set of standing metal pipes surrounding an area to be protected) completed for the well was completed this past week. Volunteer Eldon Angle rode his tractor over to the park site and dug the three foot deep holes for the standing metal pipes. What a surprise and delight to wake up on Tuesday morning and discover a light blanket of snow on the ground here in Valley Home! Running late for an appointment in Oakdale, your reporter couldn't stop to snap a photo, however on returning home we were delighted to find it had not all melted during our absence and were able to still capture some of it on film. No long drive to the mountains to enjoy a snow scene, just a walk outside the back door!

The Valley Home Community Christmas Parade will take place this coming Saturday, December 12th at 5:30 p.m. The viewing stand will be located in front of the "old" School. Oak Valley Art Society members met at the Escalon Library on Saturday, and members enjoyed a very informative program on art techniques offered by long time member, and prize winning artist, Dorothy Girling. Due to a mix-up, the artist scheduled to demonstrate that day was unavailable and the group was treated to a very enjoyable program by Dorothy, who offered helpful hints to the group on working with pastels and various and helpful hints on that medium.

Our Valley Home MAC committee will be meeting tonight, January 16 at the Valley Home school. The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. in the school library. These meetings are a wonderful way to keep the line between the residents and the county representatives. There will be reports of what has happened since last meeting, what is scheduled to happen in the near future and also an opportunity to report a problem that may need to be forwarded to the county leaders. We hope that Santa was able to make his visit to our Valley Home area and deliver a sleigh full of Christmas cheer even though he was greeted by rainy weather! Valley Home residents were still able to enjoy wending their way through our streets in the rain, and enjoy the colorful display of lighted homes. Even though we had to undergo heavy rain at times, the lights were enveloped in a misty glow that was beautiful to see.

This week has been a busy week for our 4-H'ers and we are told that next week promises to be even busier! The members will be working on their Christmas float entry this Friday night at the Barretto family ranch. The group will be putting the finishing touches on their delightful Candy House entry for the Lighted Escalon Christmas Parade in which they will ride and wave at viewers on Saturday, December 1st during the evening on Main Street in Escalon.
