Valley Home fourth grader Maddie Jones took her History assignment "Create a California Mission" to the family kitchen! Maddie used her cooking skills and her imagination to bake and decorate a very tasty mission. Maddie's teacher Robin Cole was very impressed and her classmates were thrilled to be able to munch on Maddie's delicious California mission. Great job Maddie!
How wonderful to see the rain! We are so grateful.
It was exciting to see the rain come this past week…wishing for more!
We would like to wish a happy birthday to a very important person in our Valley Home community. Kevin Koppinger is 21 years old! Kevin is always volunteering to help at our school and community activities. He is a student at Columbia College and is a manager at Papa Murphys Pizza. Happy Birthday Kevin. Hope you have a great one!
We are excited to learn that our friend and neighbor, Ray Martin, has been appointed to the Board of Directors for Oakdale Rural Fire. Congratulations Ray!
Happy Birthday wishes go out to a very hard working Valley Home grandma…Mrs. Shelly Carpenter. Shelly is always willing to help out wherever she is needed and she is a great organizer! She is also a wonderful grandmother to Mary Beth, Wyatt, and Emma. We appreciate all your hard work Shelly!
Welcome 2014! It is going to be a wonderful year! We will eat more veggies, walk more, smile more and worry less. Let's all work together to make this year a great one!
As 2013 comes to an end we reflect on the many things that make living in a small community so special. Neighbors are more than neighbors, they become family. They enjoy the good times with you and they suffer through the bad.
What a special night it was in Valley Home! Stars lit up the night sky as car after car pulled into the Valley Home School parking lot. Friendly holiday greetings passed between old friends and new. The magic of this Christmas season was everywhere. This incredible evening was made possible by the hard work of Bonnie Gellerman, Tom Cassinetto, and the staff of the after school program.
Our 2013 Grand Marshal, Tony Taro, reports having a great time on Friday evening. Christmas in Valley Home brought out much of the community to enjoy a wonderful night filled with lots of fun, friendship, and very good food! A very touching part of the evening came as everyone gathered round the tree and joined together in caroling as Wyatt Wucherer threw the switch that brought our community tree to life. The little tree glistened with lights all aglow, it seemed almost magical…what a special evening! The night was frosty cold outside as the warmth of our school gym ...
Valley Home 4-Hers held their annual Christmas party this week. It was filled with lots of laughter and tons of fun. The 4-Hers each brought a white elephant item to exchange…what a bunch of fun they had! During the evening they enjoyed Christmas cookies and holiday punch. While they were busy playing games and enjoying refreshments they were stunned to hear a loud crash, almost as if someone had landed on top of the building. Before anyone could dash outside to see what all of the clatter was about the door flew open and in came a jolly old ...
We wish each of you a very happy Thanksgiving! We hope you are surrounded by the warmth of many friends and family on this Thanksgiving Day. For many of us this holiday will be a time spent with loved ones…eating too much turkey…and being thankful for our blessings.
Happy birthday wishes to "Dad of the Year" Mr. Jeff Chrisman. Jeff is celebrating another 29th birthday this month. Happy birthday Jeff…you're just getting started!
It is hard to believe that it is already this first week of November. As you drive around our beautiful community take notice of the brightly colored fall foliage throughout. The leaves are turning the loveliest shades of yellow and orange. Autumn has certainly arrived in Valley Home!
Valley Home would like to send a huge "Thank You" to all those who helped to make our 2013 Fall Harvest Festival a wonderful success. Those who donated, those who volunteered and everyone who attended, thank you for making such a nice evening possible. The sights and sounds of the night, along with many hard working folks will long be remembered.
This week we salute a local hero. Gene Benedix was wounded in combat in 1951 during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart commendation. He never received the actual Purple Heart medal. There will be a special presentation by Congressman Jeff Denham on April 7, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Gladys Lemmons Senior Center to present this medal. Please try to attend. Thank you to Judy Bossard for sharing this important news with the community.
Cost Less Market ... What a spectacular trip it is from Valley Home to go grocery shopping. Taking the time to appreciate this trip is something that I have learned to make a priority. Where else can you drive five minutes to go grocery shopping and pass almond orchards with beautiful blossoms, go past Bushwacker's home, watch cattle and horses grazing on lush green pastures, then at the edge of town and right before shopping, pass over the most spectacular bridge! Crossing this beautiful gateway bridge offers you a moment to reflect. Many thousands use this strong and steady passage ...
This past week I had the opportunity to visit with a young man I hadn't seen for a very long time. Seeing Cy Chrisman all grown up was a reminder to me of how quickly the years are going by. It's always such a great pleasure for me when one of our Valley Home young folks drops by our home for a visit when home from college. The joy of seeing these young people as they go from elementary school to high school and now to college is such a true blessing! My visit with Cy came while ...

We send our heartfelt sympathy to our Knights Ferry neighbors. Once again this small tight knit community has lost one of their own. Glenda Maisel passed away very suddenly this past week. Glenda and her husband Rick owned and operated the historic Knights Ferry General Store, Bar and Glenda's Deli. Many folks, including several of us here in Valley Home will remember Glenda's delicious cooking! I will always remember the care Glenda took to get every order just right, her customers were each special to her! The community of Knights Ferry has suffered the loss of so many ...
It was birthday time in Valley Home as Garret Lee celebrated his big day! Garret and his friends and family enjoyed an afternoon of indoor swimming at Modesto Aquatics this past Saturday. The seventh grader and his guests were treated to pizza following their afternoon in the heated pool. It was a wonderful birthday and we wish Garret many happy returns of his special day!
It was back to school this past week for our Valley Home school students. Looking for a bright spot, the students were excited to learn they would have a vacation day on January 9th and also on January 19th! January 9th was a staff development day and January 19th is Martin Luther King Jr. day. On January 21st there will be a teacher collaboration meeting at 3:00pm. Friday January 23rd is the first basketball game of the season! Teams will travel to Paradise school to play. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come out and support our Valley Home ...
As 2015 begins, we offer a very special thank you to Mrs. Laura Burghardt. Laura wrote the Valley Home News for many years before taking a much deserved rest. For 38 years Laura brought our community together by sharing happenings within Valley Home. It was so important to Laura to make sure school events, community events, family celebrations, and community information was available through her column. We appreciate your many years of service to our community Laura!
