This week we are thrilled to write about a delightful young lady, TJ Verdegaal. TJ was a contestant in the annual Distinguished Young Woman of Oakdale program, which was held Saturday, Feb. 13 at Magnolia School. TJ is active in many community events, and is involved in school activities such as cheerleading, track and leadership. She has earned her Academic Block O as well as her Athletic Block O. Growing up in Valley Home, Emma is blessed with a rural lifestyle, a beautiful country home and a wonderful supportive family. This time of year Emma is very involved with her Oakdale High classmates preparing for the Academic Decathlon. It takes hard work, dedication, long hours of studying and a strong desire to represent the reigning Oakdale High Mustangs. Delicious food in Valley Home! This Saturday, January 30th the delightful ladies of St John's/St Luke's church will once again be selling their delicious homemade enchiladas. The church ladies take great pride in turning out their special tasty enchiladas. All funds benefit the church. You may place your orders with choice of red or green sauce by calling Judy at 847-6647. The enchiladas sell for $15.00 for 1/2 dozen. With Super Bowl right around the corner, why not freeze a couple of dozen for the big game? What a delicious treat for all!

This evening, Wednesday, January 20th, the Valley Home "MAC" council will hold its quarterly meeting. All are invited to come share your thoughts or have your questions answered. County Supervisor O'Brien, as well as law enforcement, fire and school officials will be present to answer your questions. This is a great time to find out what is going on in your community! The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. and will be held in the Valley Home School library.

A special place to live ... this past Saturday our community once again came together to enjoy a "Valley Home Christmas." Members of our community park board were excited to welcome Valley Home resident Ryan Cope as a new member of the park board. Ryan will serve as Treasurer for the community park. There is one board position open, if anyone would like to fill the open seat, please call Don Taro at 404-1641. The next event at the little park will be the "Christmas Tree Lighting" on December 5th. The colorful lights will be turned on immediately after the Community Lighted Parade. Autumn leaves crunched beneath our feet as we made our way to the annual Soup Luncheon and Craft Faire at St. Johns/St. Lukes church this past Saturday.
