The Valley Home School PTC meeting has been moved to tomorrow, December 9th at 3 p.m. in Mrs. Moore's classroom with babysitting available in Mrs. Rathbun's class. All are invited as we will be talking about our budget ideas for the PTC funds. It would be nice to have 3 budget ideas from each member to discuss at the meeting.

The redwood picnic tables for the Valley Home Community Center Park have arrived and they are beautiful! Eight of them were handmade by a supplier living in Chinese Camp and this brings to mind an almost unbelievable bit of historical connection. In the early history of this area and before Oakdale became a town with its own post office, the residents here resided in Camp Washington. A search for the location of this site would lead you to Chinese Camp as it was the post office headquarters for this large Enumeration District. So 150 years later the connection is re-kindled ...

Your reporter is honored to announce that we have a winner in our community. Valley Home resident Joseph Perez participated in the 2010 Annual SIR State Poppy Hills Individual Championship Golf Tournament at the Poppy Hills course along the coast in Monterey on October 27 and October 28. The weather was beautiful and the Monterey coastline welcomed the large group of golfers. Thursday's playing prepared the participants for the championship playing on Friday and when the final scores were tallied and posted on the SIR State Golf website it showed that out of the 72 golfers in the tournament ...

Valley Home residents are still basking in the glow of all the fun enjoyed at this year's Harvest Festival. The results for the following contests held during the festival were not available in time for last week's column and we include them now. Judges for the Scarecrow contest had the fun of driving through our Valley Home area and enjoying viewing the displays close at hand. There were four exhibits for judges to view this year. Rain certainly didn't dampen the spirits of everyone attending the Valley Home Harvest Festivities on Saturday afternoon. There was lots to see and do at the Festival. Excitement ran high at the pumpkin judging booth with pumpkins of all sizes and shapes on display. The five pumpkin contests were coordinated by Jenna Heaton and Valley Home 4-H and sponsored by Mid Valley Agriculture Services. Valley Home 4-H is looking for the "Great Pumpkin" this Saturday at our Valley Home School Harvest Festival. Judges will be searching for the "Biggest Pumpkin," "Strangest Shape Pumpkin" and the most Perfect Pumpkin." We also understand that there will be a contest for the best "Carved Pumpkin!" Approximately 95 people were spotted at Art and Tami Tharpe's ranch on Pioneer Avenue where they had gathered to enjoy an evening of good food and succulent lobster just arrived from Maine for the special occasion. Threatening rain clouds scudded across the evening sky but failed to dampen the spirits of the group, all of whom enjoyed great food and the opportunity to visit with old friends. Being the third Wednesday of the month, tonight is the meeting night for the Valley Home Municipal Advisory (MAC). The Valley Home MAC is an important means to know what is happening in our community. Reports are presented at the meeting by representatives from various county agencies in addition to the Oakdale Rural Fire Department, and the California Highway Patrol. The meeting is held at 6:30 p.m. in the library of the Valley Home School. All are invited and encouraged to attend.

It is always a pleasure to be able to share exciting news concerning one of our young Valley Home people that we have watched growing up in our community. On August 14th about 50 friends and family members attended the Graduation-Happy Birthday Party for Alanna Jones. Alanna graduated from Oakdale High School with the Class of 2010. Her birthday will be on September 12th, however she will not be home for the celebration. Sheriff Adam Christianson was guest speaker at the Valley Home MAC meeting held on August 18. He addressed issues with budgeting, loss of patrol, detectives and community deputies. He also addressed individual community member concerns regarding recent trespass, theft of personal property and other criminal activity. He also gave information on how to apply for a free service by STARS volunteers in which they stamp farm property with a universal identifying number, which is then placed in a national database to make recovery easier for the property owner. Here in Valley Home we love to celebrate the good in life! Recently one of our favorite Valley Home families reached a big milestone. Jeff and Sally Chrisman celebrated 23 years of marriage on June 15th, which was also Father's Day this year. The joy of summertime memories...it was another special June visit for lifelong friends Taylor Denman and Jenna Heaton! It always amazes me, the bond these two friends share. Becoming best friends in kindergarten at Valley Home School, the friendship survived long distance when the Denman family moved to Texas when the girls were about twelve years old.
